Ha, just two place behind my previous character on the ladder. This guy had some room to run and shouldn't have died. I've got a lot to learn about Ironband.

After a long drawn out fight with Mirkwood spiders, Al was poisoned. I wasn't too concerned until he died on his next turn. Apparently Al was poisoned to the tune of 13 points of damage a turn!!! Enough to kill the poor wood elf who was just getting ready to heal himself.

Al had yet to be seriously challenged in the dungeon despite descending rather quickly. His lack of ammunition was hurting a bit, as he was dumping stat points into DEX and PER all game, but his skill melee wasn't all bad either.

mirkwood spiders are definitely one of the top killers.

Care to explain NPP/Ironband poisoning a bit. I'm kinda used to the lose 1 HP per turn but it lasts for a while variety. I'm sensing that NPP/Iron tweaked this.

Also, some indication to the degree of poisoning might be nice, especially if it's going to be immanently fatal. Al had 8 He's left. He chose, with only 8 HP's left, to take take down the last spider rather than heal. He succeeded in killing the spider with what turned out to be his last turn.

Hint: You may have noted that almost all stats are necessary, or at least important. This means essentially humans and high-elves are the best choices, because everyone else has considerable reductions to stats without proper compensation. Also, a wood-elf is probably best served playing for stealth. Otherwise, nice character and very nice to see someone else play Ironband.

Ironband poisoning is quite different from NPP. NPP is just 1 point per turn. In Ironband it gets more deadly as your poison level rises. Don't hang round in melee with poisonous critters. It would have been worth burning !Speed to get away from the Mirkwood spiders.

As I remember the main currency in the early to mid game is !Speed, !CSW and ?Tele - when you run out of these it pretty much means you're going to die soon.
