Second (postable) try. I thought getting Sting and a speedring +4 is a good base to stay alive for a few levels. And I just noticed the great spell "extra might", combined with "evily blessing" you become a serious powerhouse. For a HM... Only thing I need now is a +20 ring of damage or a simular ring of slaying and I'm set for the midlevels.

Btw how much damage do those aura do? Until now monsters are dying when they touch my fire/elec/cold aura. Massive damage if they don't resist any of them.

The Hex is a very interesting magicschool, you have so many ways to hurt monsters and monster might need his own hexing.

Ow and another thing. Does spellpower work for those damaging/healing hexing?

Going very slow (op purpose, because I kill myself most of the time being too deep).

Mother Hydra was a mistake, a trap dropped me on her level. I was very lucky she was in a run-away mode, so her deadly melee changed into a double resisted acid stuff and still very annoying waterbolts/balls. But I had a nice arsenal of deadly balls myself and the last three stars of her life were taken by melee. Someone was kind enough to curse Sting, boosting its damage with 5 damage a hit with the sword hexing. Saves me the trouble cursing it with the chance of disenchanting it. Just need to pack a lot of food.

But I think I found a bug, stunning removes active hexes. But when you are already stunned you can start new hexes again and when someone hits you with a stunning attack while being already stunned, the hexing stays. So being stunned protects you against more stunning. Very useful but it feels just wrong that you can restart hexing while being stunned.

clvl 30, 3 hexes again! I'm combining extra might, swords to runeswords/touch of confusion and csw, giving me almost double damage and some serious regen. King Koopa couldn't handle it as was the Ancient White D right behind it. Hexing is way more powerful than I thought a few days ago.

Best thing found =ofSpeed +7. Second one, pretty nice.
Would like to find the shield Perseus if thats the one who also has +4 con, because my base con is maxed at 18/80 which is pretty low, but I don't dare to drink a !New Life as my life-rating is 114/100, which is pretty nice.

Btw Chris, couldn't you make a notification like how many Hexes you can put up? Because I know now that clvl 30 gives 3, but does clvl 45 give 4 or is 3 the max?

And I had some other things, but I can't remember... Time for dinner.

Crisdurian... Nice

Makes me wonder, does the cut ability stack?

On 4.3.2012 21:08 chris wrote:
Thanks for the Hex ideas ... I'll take a look at improvements next time I do serious coding.

Player auras do 2d6 unless your opponent resists, in which case they do 0. Auras seem to be useful early on, but useless later so maybe some redesign is in order?

For vorpal weapons, the damage does stack with the best slay if that is what you were asking. So Crisdurian versus a dragon (3x slay) will roll 3 * 4d5 for a normal hit, 2 * 3 * 4d5 for a gouge, 3 * 3 * 4d5 for a maim, 4 * 3 * 4d5 for a carve, 5 * 3 * 4d5 for a cleave, etc. Plusses to damage are added after the fact.

On 4.3.2012 21:18 Arjen wrote:
I was more wondering about Crisdurian having vorpal and the hex "sword to runeswords" too. Does those stack?

And yeah, i'm not using the auras anymore, there are better Hexes. But I did just escape death because of a Hex... I lack FA without Sting... Thank God the elec aura still worked.

On 4.3.2012 21:54 chris wrote:
(Source Dive for Spoilers)

Nope :)

Runesword also gives slay good (pretty useless unless you want to fight The Unicorn!) and a small bonus to damage if the weapon is cursed. But the sharpness from "Swords to runeswords" won't add anything to Crisdurian. Try using it with the Glaive of Pain instead.

On 4.3.2012 22:22 Arjen wrote:
Hmm, cool, saves me choosing between conf or vorpal sometimes. Cleaning a P pit atm with some (4) lesser confused titans. Very nice.

Also noticed that with extra might I can get 4 bpr (6 with Sting) instead of 3. Max base for HM is 3 right? I think the descriptions of the spells from the Hexing school lacks somewhat.

On 4.3.2012 23:28 Arjen wrote:
I remember how deadly Smaug was for my previous Hex HM. I totally ran over him this time. I used 3 charges of breathe frost first, but I could have finished him with melee only. The other fire dragon I got as quest after Smaug went down just as easy, both dropped crap. Might need a deadly fight for better drops? ;)

And if the player auras are 2d6, does that mean that the cloak of shadows give a 2d6 dark aura? Useful, I would try to curse a cloak for it as it doesn't work on an uncursed cloak. :)

But I really want to find an other source for FA... To realise that Sting is my only source for FA at clvl 32 is somewhat stunning. So, I need a bow type with FA.

On 5.3.2012 00:05 chris wrote:
Shadow cloak is different and much better. I can spoil it if you like. Try cursing as much of your gear as possible!

Ok I did a check with the Shadow Cloak and 4 (basic) pieces of cursed equipment... Damn! Nice :) (Look at me no spoilers) ;) But still, I don't have enough mana for it, need to get some more to use this Hex with the others I really like. Sucks not having Eat Magic.

Might need to check if disenchantment resistance also works against the cursing of your own equipment. Would be nice as it's the one reason why I don't curse my own equipment.

On 5.3.2012 07:47 Arjen wrote:
And it doesn't... Ow well, I'll see if I can find a Priest pit or something like that.

Clvl 35!

Got the promised list to deactivate spells and Building Up, just as nice as described by Chris. Costs only 5 mana per turn... Manadrain! But worth it.

Found the Boots Flora, so I finally have res Nether and an other source of FA. So... Hello Crisdurian, saves me the trouble casting the cutting hex. Got way too many other very nice hexes to use that one. Now I need to get my 2 other physical stats up to some more respectable level.

On 5.3.2012 15:43 Arjen wrote:
Bah, found out that Sting was also good for res fear... Why is that damn little sword so powerful? Failed dungeonquest Rao the Conqueror because he can hit to fear... Better stock up those !Heroism.

Cloning Pits (Gachapin) dropped Brand! It was the only item worthy mentioning, reward was Frodo, but it was so worth doing the Pits. It was pretty easy too actually. The random monsters were Magma Vain, Shadow hounds, Ranger, Ogres and something else crappy. I have worse with death knights, dracolichs.

Do I dare to do the Old Castle?
Iron Lich is doable with double res fire
Titans can be confused
Fallen Angel i don't know, but never saw him as a tough opponent while doing the Castle.
So... I should be able to kill it if stuff don't get out of control. And with my nice new speed, I'm pretty fast.

On 5.3.2012 18:12 Arjen wrote:

Old Castle was a pushover, everything just died. I found the Collar of Hell while killing stuff and wielded that one to kill the Titans even faster. There was no need for me to worry. Switching Hammerhand with Tranduil for the sooo badly needed blind res.

Bah, hard time finding the 4th book in R'leyh... I miss the chaos spell Alter Reality, that one made scrumming for it a lot easier. ;)

Did find Fingolfin which is a nice replacement for Pippin. Also found Carlammas for some more hp. For the rest not much new.

But bored looking for the 4th book as I think dlvl 80 is bit shallow for it. (I did saw 3 other 4th books while searching, so it should be possible to find it this way.)

On 6.3.2012 12:55 Arjen wrote:
Went to dlvl 93 to read the art scroll on my dragonboots, hoping for a con/speed combo. Got the con, not the speed. But who cares! When I entered dlvl 93, who was sitting 3 spots away from me? a Hex Spellbook [Forbidden Cursebook]! ... omg... Does my luck never end? I think I'll die when facing the J. That way the RNG will have the most fun crushing my luck. We will see, but now I can drain stunned monsters from their life. And that anti Multiply hex... No more worries about those Unmakers ruining a perfectly fine level.

So... what's left for me to want? The ability to use a wizardstaff the same way as a shield and find Gandalf? Or just finding Thorin.

Time to (Dimension door) blink around and hex stuff some more with a vamperic Ringel.

On 7.3.2012 11:12 Arjen wrote:
Clvl 41, still alive. Clvl 40 went pretty fast as 1 group of Shadow Demons dropped 2 !Experience.

Had a very close call with Kenshirou when he retaliated and attack me for 700 damage... I'm very glad he did that at the start of our battle and I had 850 hp... Teleported and left the level. Side-effect of his melee round was me being heavily stunned (canceling all my hexes). I need stun resistance, should have picked Poseidon as daddy. But when I started I didn't know how annoying stunning was for Hexes. But he will be ignored from now on, hoping he isn't going to show up ever again.

But if I knew at the start what I know now, I wouldn't have chosen the +3 spellpower either, as it has no effect at all at anything, wasting some very precious melee stats for a lousy +3 int. Life sucks, but I'm still alive enjoying it.

On 7.3.2012 13:41 chris wrote:
It does indeed suck, the spell power thing. But, you still get +15% device power. Now that you know the 4th book, consider how effective wands of rockets might be with the anti-magic barrier up!

Now you mention that... That could work very well, monsters being ticked off without the ability to shoot back! I love it. Already liking the no-teleport hex with those *annoying* thieves like Erik and other p's.

The Hex magic school is the most interesting school next to Craft. Not the simple shoot-when-it-moves kind of approaches. Only thing I haven't really used are the cursed based hexes. I don't like curses. ;)

On 7.3.2012 16:29 Arjen wrote:
Haha, Klingsor, Evil Master of Magic + anti magic hex = just a weak person. I love the Anti Magic barrier.

The fight with Combat-Echizen was more troublesome as he shoots a lot of Rockets which don't count as magic. But I was somehow able to kill him pretty fast as most hit landed after I removed my decoration shield (not so useful, where is Thorin?).

On 8.3.2012 09:10 Arjen wrote:
Should have teleported when my double res worn off... "But he had just one more star left." Stupid mistake leads to stupid death.

But I'm going to start a new Hex HM, this time with Poseidon. I'm also going to choose 0 Spellpower at birth. Dlvl 90 and still not a single -Rocket.

On 8.3.2012 13:22 chris wrote:
Congrats on a great run with this guy, definitely the best Hexer yet!

If you don't mind a scummy feeling, you can use that Jewel of Judgment to 'quickly' locate rockets. Simply recall back and forth between town and L80+. Look for -Rockets in map mode (You need to register them for pickup in your pickup preferences file) and leave immediately if you don't see them. Still, it can take 5 hours of this approach to get a good arsenal.

A recent change is for -Rockets to be droppable by DROP_GOOD and DROP_GREAT monsters. They can also be generated in GCV and Bubble Vaults. So they are more common these days, but not finding any by L90 is not only unusual, it is actually rather common.

Good Luck on your next hexer, and you are tempting me to try one again. Did you have any luck with Eye for an Eye? I always found that spell useful vs. the really deadly foes (Destroyer, Unique Angels, Serpent) but pretty meh vs others.
