That was just stupid. YASD indeed; got distracted and lost track of hp for just a second.

The last several levels didn't really yield much until a copy of Tenser's a few minutes before death - one shock was that donning nenya did *NOT* protect potions from freezing!

Anyway; even at high levels it's still a hugely fragile character. But deserved better. Two comps in a row now a late-game death has prevented an anticipated win - argh argh argh.

@Nick: switching in Nenya lost me roughly 140hp. And then I discovered that it did not prevent destruction of potions in inventory, so I rarely wore it - tried for the Tarresque but quickly gave up on that monster anyway!

Didn't think of using the staff as a weapon; never occurred to me that would be sensible or intended. In general, this variant seemed to have uninformative *ID* which was annoying -no damage info on wands/staves for instance.
