What?! No Snipers on the Hengband ladder? Pshaw ... Actually, I was having a lot less fun with this guy until I jumped into the Cloning Pits. Hitherto, I have just been playing a "One and Done" strategy with Dragons to conserve/build up ammo. But now, my stealth and probing are ruling the day.

Let's start with the Bokrugs. But what is that, a freakin' Planetar?? Holy cow, is that a tough draw for a random monster. I concentrated and hit him with an Evil Arrow that knocked 5 stars off! Nice, but I still had to finish the job. Snipers get that one good initial shot, then you are back to middling shooting damage. But my 2 rings of extra shots help out in that respect, and the Planetar only got me down to 250hp or slow. Everybody else stayed a sleep.

Then, the fun began. I one shot killed a Bokrug (great hit) and an It (great hit). The ones I didn't kill immediately, quickly fell to normal steel bolts after gasping in horror to my rude awakening!

Now, I need to secure the left half of the quest before taking on the Dagons. I think Plasma Arrows will work nicely ... Hopefully, I have exhausted my bad luck on the random monster draws with that stupid Planetar.

Wow ... I completely misjudged the power of this class. I brought 2 stacks of 99 steel bolts into the quest, but I think 20 or 30 would have sufficed. How freakin' powerful is Plasma Bolt? Well, I was one shot killing 990hp Gachapin's without critical hits! And the last one (all 3 died in a single shot without waking) got a great hit, but I don't think I needed that. So, I'm shooting for 1000 at least without criticals.

I looked it up. I won't spoil, but the damage boosts are greater than say, bolts of shocking. Much greater :D

So now I need to come up with what to do after my first shot.

The Cloning Pits was such a dream, I decided to go ahead and immediately do the Old Castle. I brought ample healing this time since I lack nether resistance, but nobody woke up the entire quest. Raals are one shot kills, and the Dracolich got a buff plasma bolt as a wake up call. I then blinked out of line of sight, rebuffed, and took him down.

The Greater Titans had me a bit worried. I can wake them up for 1000 damage or so, but they have 3000hp and love to summon. So, after my first shot, I just immediately teleported, and then ducked down the long straight corridor with rubble in the bottom middle of the quest. Lead them around, time my buffs, and blast. They were easily handled, and the two of them only summoned once, getting some weak wraiths which only served to block my line of fire.

So, the strategy will be uber stealth. I'm now on the look out for Faramir. For big uniques, I will just need to teleport a bit. Maybe blinking inside of ASC would work well.

I ran the quests in Angband all the way down to DL56, and even though I was never made to feel in danger, I think I better hold off a bit. For some reason, I just can't seem to cover Nether, Sound and Shards resistances.

Best shot so far was to take a Bile Wyrm from 4000hp down to 689hp. At least, that's the best shot were my foe remained alive so I could probe it :D

Faramir at last give Legendary[12] stealth. And is my shooting really Legendary[70]? Holy Cow! Of course, it really sucks when a sniper misses a shot since it costs 7 turns.

Another lucky break: Mycen dropped Amber! My first shot against this dragon took 5 stars off him, but I quickly realized I couldn't just sit in line of sight concentrating for a second shot. He breathes too hard! And getting him to chase me proved not possible, so I had to finish him off with sub-optimal shots.

And I am also preeminently squishable, as I learned when I teleported away from an oncoming GWoST to land out of line of sight of a Sky Drake ... or so I thought. I couldn't see him, but he could see me, and breathed me down to 65hp with a single casual lightning breath! Bastard!

Well, Amber lets me shuffle in for all resistances and Legendary[32] stealth (which is now maxxed out) and also also allows me to swap back in my extra shots. Aside from my paltry hitpoints, I'd be feeling rather good right now. Maybe if Cambeleg or Corwin would show up?
