Here are my solutions with differing levels of bile wyrms in them:
1. Nerf staves of genocide.
2. Nerf devices of genocide.
3. Remove staves of genocide.
4. Remove devices of genocide.
5. Remove staves.
6. Remove devices.
Take your pick.
I suggest 6 so that all characters can all feel what berserkers feel all the time.
Coincidentally, this is the solution with the most bile wyrms in it. Bile wyrms are my favorite.

Staves of genocide are making things too easy at the end, as much as it's convenient to be able to remove Z from all levels.Leave a comment:

I forgot this:
Besides the Hex realm and Rage-Mage specifics,....Skillmasters have no access to the Burglary realm either... If Skillmasters are "design-your-own-class"....then why not?

Whoa there... those two things on something that can specialize in melee?
But then again, there's already craft and archers, as kindly pointed out by GenericPseudonym.Leave a comment:

You know what's missing from the Skillmaster's selection?
1. Hex Magic
2. Rage-Mage technique
Hey Chris, add these for the Skillmaster in the next release!!!Leave a comment:

Turns out that some of these already had winners in Hengband or Entroband. However, some of them were part of chris's variant and could use a winner...the Rage-Mage comes to mind...Did you know, after all this time, the following races/classes still do not have WINNERS on the poschengband ladder?
RACES:
amberite
beastman
doppelganger
dunadan
dwarf
gnome
half-giant
half-troll
kutar
skeleton
wood-elf
zombie
CLASSES:
blue-mage
duelist
force-trainer
imitator
rage-mage
red-mage
scout
sniper
warrior-mage
wild-talent
yellow-mage
So much that needs visiting by the community or tuning by chris!
chem if you have more ideas, you should team up with chris!!Leave a comment:

Yeah it's kind of funny because Archer is the one class who really DOESN'T care about getting zero breakage. A bowmaster would be elated if his precious rare seeker ammo was unbreakable. An Archer has 500 spare arrows in his house and doesn't really care if he loses some.Early benefit is pretty high, true - but you've glossed over a few things.
Archer has more thb (82/36) rather than (70/30). Archer has a higher life rating of 111 (that's equivalent of 2.75 points spent on life). Built-in create ammo is another point. Finally, archer has built-in melee skill worth about 3 points (as far as thn goes anyway).
Edit: but to be fair, skillmaster gets some extra bonuses to hit which end up more than an archer gets I think. And to damage, which is pretty big.
But! Archer gets 0 breakage eventually. Which is not that big of a deal with create ammo at hand.
Actually my current character is a skillmaster archer-clone with craft magic slapped on top. Even on classes without any special archery bonuses craft archery is amazing in the earlygame because of how well shooters scale with enchantment, but if you throw in +1.5 shots and a supply of seeker ammo it just gets ridiculous. Plus when I find book 4 I'll be able to cast crafting to add egos to all my seeker arrows, then combine with weaponmastery and manabranding for some truly absurd damage. (Oh yeah! Skillmasters with level 5 Craft can cast mana branding, which is unavailable for rangers, monks, mage-warriors, and other hybrid types. )Leave a comment:

Early benefit is pretty high, true - but you've glossed over a few things. The Skillmaster's archery bonus seems like it's maybe too strong. They get the full +1.50 shots/round as soon as they've invested 5 points. For the actual Ranger and Archer classes, this firing speed bonus scales with clvl. In fact, a real Archer takes until CL38 to be better than a Skillmaster at the only thing his class does! (But by that point the Skillmaster has 7 more points worth of skills in addition to the archery.)
