    Is this working as designed?
Rogues get a second trap at level 25 - is this what's happening?

    Sneak attack ?!
Seems odd to me - sometimes I'm getting sneak attacks on sleeping monsters, most times I'm not. Most odd thing just happened: Attacked a sleeping Ice Troll, didn't get sneak bonus, brought him down to 1 star nevertheless - and he fled, swapping position with another sleeping Ice Troll. I attacked into the same square - and got a sneak attack against the just-shifted, but supposedly still sleeping, Troll ?!
The sneak attack message only happens when you get a high critical. And trolls are heavy sleepers...

    Ranged attack while fleeing?
Besides, that fleeing Troll kept hurling boulders at me?!!
Yes - fear doesn't come into monsters' decisions whether or not to use a ranged attack.

      Buggy shopkeeper...

I just sold a ring of protection (-8) with 2 light resistances (5% to 15% range) for 500+ GP. I immediately regretted destroying the ring of protection (-9) just before recalling to town. I wouldn't pay 1 GP for either one of them.

      Buggy world map...
There's something screwy going on with the world map. When I set my font to 5x8 and go full screen on a 19" monitor the world map screws up, placing some areas of the map twice, in two different locations.

Check the screen shot at www.mediafire.com/buzzkill in the FA folder. You will see that two different locations state "current" just east of Belgost and then again, down and to the left.

EDIT... and this probably doesn't surprise you, because as you already know, and I'm just beginning to realize, the world of FA doesn't exactly conform to a sheet of graph paper. There seem to be 'wormholes', mysteriously, seamlessly, connecting some parts of the map.

EDIT... EDIT... just one last question, how (many levels) far south does the valley run, and what's at the end of it (what does it connect to, if anything)?

I guess the resists are worth more than 8 AC, according to the current pricing scheme.

Not wormholes so much as it's not laid out on a square grid. When I was first coding up the world map, I kind of assumed that local precision would be enough - and it is if you can only look 5 or 6 levels in each direction. I may have to rethink that assumption.

Nan Dungortheb goes to level 70, and the end only connects to anywhere else once you kill Ungoliant.

Since your not going to spit it out, I guess I'll have to go kill Ungoliant. This may take a while...

Oops, forgot. It goes out into Doriath - so it's not really progress.

Maybe - I'm not sure if some friendly "W" drained me of enough XP to put me below the Lvl-25 mark just before leaving the level.
I am pretty sure, though, that I tried trapsetting on the special level, got 2, and tried after leaving, and got only 1 ... .

I would expect that fleeing in one and throwing into the opposite direction is a most confusing undertaking - for a troll

Edit: - some new complaint -

Never seen a shapechanger change into an unique, until today?!?!

                Request for spoilers :

"Rouges can fight very well with light weapons .. , but have trouble with heavier gear."
What is that supposed to mean?

What are the "chaotic effects" that an "of Chaos" weapon is supposed to cause?
                I recently found a "Sabre of Chaos (1d7) (+22, +12)".
I massacred a dozend Black Orcs on Doriath-20 but all I noticed was that an orc was teleported away once, but nothing else?!

Firstly I think one of the first shapechangers I ever saw turned into the Defiler... it was *&!#?Ł terrifying.

Every class has a maximum weight weapon that they are comfortable with which increases with level. For rogues and assassins, they get a skill bonus depending on how far before that maximum they are.

I haven't code dived but I've seen polymorphs and holding as well as teleports of course. I have also seen some interesting player effects when getting hit by chaos attacks, but wouldn't want to spoil those...

For me it seems rare when a shapeshifter doesn't turn into a unique... The first one I saw turned into Ungoliant, which was NOT COOL.

I'm enjoying this variant overall but having a very hard time with druids who keep summoning spiders and ants which mob me...that's really tough when your armor gets all melted off.

Run away! Run away! You need potions of speed and/or a means of teleportation to escape.

                          Sirion Vale / Tol-in-Gaurhoth

Is there a secret in finding Tol-in-Gaurhoth? I have searched all over Sirion Vale but either overlooked or missed a staircase/trapdoor? Is that indeed what I am looking for?

Yep - I don't have FAA in front of me but there should be a staircase in the middle of the level (in the middle of the river, indeed, just like Nargothrond's entrance) around SV40 or so.

It is in SV38. If you look on the map, it should say (Dungeon) beneath the location.

I produced a 'world map' for FAAngband available here. It's a bitmap, about 2.5mb. It's not 100% accurate, but is very good. It's (almost) exactly what you would see on the in-game map screen, just the whole map at once. I plan on adding the names of the towns at some point, but don't know when I'll get around to it, so here it is.
