It increases throwing skill to Rogue level. I was intending at ione point to make it a certain hit, but didn't (I think I just forgot).

PS... well-balanced, branded, daggers sell for way too much!
Well, they're kind of worth it.

1.0.2 two bugs and one question

Bug #1. Battle Magic spell "thrust" does not beam but text states it should. Or maybe graphics are not properly showing a beam. It does not look like it does more than push away the one monster it hits. It is pretty useless as a "Battle Magic" if it is not a beam.
Bug #2. Ring of feather falling (v) got squelched.

Question. Some objects have a (u),(v) or (a) after their name. What does this mean?

I hope there is a higher level spell that has the same effect as thrust, but has a large radius effect centred around the caster? That would be awesome.

Not sure if it beams or not, but thrust away is one of the best battle spells in the mage's arsenal. Not only does it keep monster's out of melee range, but it stuns and damages them too. Awesome.

Found another bug for you, Nick.

I've found the Staff of Starfire twice in my current game. The first time I drained it of charges and left it where it was. The second time it was in a bubble vault and already id'd as the Staff of Starfire.

When on the spell casting menu for the Battle Magic book, the text to the right of the "thrust" spell name states "beam".
Personally, I would find being able to thrust an entire hallway of orcs back more useful and satisfying.

edit: Pardon me. I now see the "beam" text means it _might_ beam. Damn DS! So much text gets cut off. Might be better to call this spell "force bolt" and also have it destroy doors(if it doesn't already, haven't checked)? "thrust" sounds so very pelvic...

Oh no, that's not a bug. You have a chance to find any artifact a second time, but it's a zombie version, and if you pick it up it's all like "BRAAIIINS!" and you're all like "OMG!! GET IT OFF ME!".

Was it charged the second time?

That's great! I hope you're not just yanking our collective chains. I seem to recall finding a certain ring at one point, that is supposedly unable to be dropped once it gets in your pack, but I never had any trouble dropping it (at least I think it was in FA).

Pretty sure I was able to drain it again, so yes.

Well, I was - but maybe there should be a class of mimics that imitates actual artifacts and then attacks you.

I think that was bugged in pre-release 1.0, but is fixed now.

Heh, that would be suitably evil - maybe let Greater Jeweled Chests blink and polymorph-self into Ringil, Feanor (the boots, not the elf), etc...

27th level Mage: Amon Rudh depth?

                        Hi there,

I have taken to scumming a character simply to play areas I will never otherwise get to see. I have a 27th level mage and I have been trying to complete Amon Rudh, but am finding it impossible. I ran across Nim in AR30 and can not manage to kill the little bugger. He is immune to all elemental attacks. The only spell that damages him is "thrust" and with only 66 mana, even with recharging my mana from staves, I barely make a dent in his hp. I have an amulet of acid resistance but after Nim casts acid ball a few times my gear is all damaged and I die.

At this point leveling up feels like a chore, but none of my spells dispatch an enemy as well as a longbow of velocity. Nim, bless him, shrugs off my missile attacks.

I feel a bit stuck as what to do next. AR is the "easiest" of the (dungeons).

Aside: Is there a way to donate to Angband or does fund raising occur only as required?

Leave Mim alone until you either have the mana to thrust him to death, or have enough wands of Drain Life/Striking/Shrapnel etc

At your level you want to be using the cold beam spell to take out corridors of bad guys. However your SP sounds awfully low - have you not found a decent "Int yet?

Mim is worth killing. If you're having trouble with him, then he'll likely drop something you'll find useful, plus you get the extra specialty.

You'll need speed (not optional at this point), rAcid, phase/teleport and some form of healing. Bless/Holy Chant wouldn't hurt either. Your bow should do the trick, as long as you hit 50% or so. If you fight him long enough, he will eventually run out of mana. Though just leaving a recall point at AR30 and coming back later isn't a bad option either.

I can still remember the first time I killed Mim...

                                2 traps ?
I'm (still) running a rogue, and I normally get only 1 trap to set on a level. Yet, on special levels, it seems I constantly get to set 2 !?
And no, I havn't chosen "2nd trap" special ability.
                                Is this working as designed?

                                Sneak attack ?!
Seems odd to me - sometimes I'm getting sneak attacks on sleeping monsters, most times I'm not. Most odd thing just happened: Attacked a sleeping Ice Troll, didn't get sneak bonus, brought him down to 1 star nevertheless - and he fled, swapping position with another sleeping Ice Troll. I attacked into the same square - and got a sneak attack against the just-shifted, but supposedly still sleeping, Troll ?!

                                Ranged attack while fleeing?
Besides, that fleeing Troll kept hurling boulders at me?!!
