Just to be clear, is this a request that you can use letters, or that the prompt be changed? Or both?

I got a square_in_bounds() assertion fail in g410be98. Looks like that bug's not dead, yet.

    I totally agree with that!

For bugfixing the first bug I attached a save. You can cast the spell and it fails to find the two doors you can see if you only walk one space south.

There's a new build up, with one change - books are now automatically inscribed with 1-9.

    Thanks for all the reports/issues:
    • Yes, slow darts are unresistable
    • Notification for immunity - I'm inclined to think no. Currently the status messages are pretty much all temporary conditions, and I feel like this would be muddying the waters. I can think about making what appears in the status line configurable, but probably not for 4.1
    • Changing the birth process - I can see what you're getting at, but it would be quite an operation and either change or confuse the process for everyone else. You get functionally almost the same effect from choosing a random race and class
    • Disjoint dungeon bad. Will investigate
    • Healers light green like druids is probably good - I will look at the pit types and see what works best
    • {tried} inscription noted

Un-ided FA didn't trigger on a slow dart. Latest build.

Edit: Ided FA also failed for slow dart, is it not meant to work? I mean it works for the slow spell, right?

Resubmitting for consideration a couple feature requests to consider, or reconsider...

    1. Turning on the temporary resist indicators also when @ has immunity. It seems to me that in a Venn Diagram, temporary resist would be included in the universe of immunity. This would also remind the player that there is no need to add a temporary resist because @ already has immunity. Or, if you want a differentiation, maybe an Immunity indicator would be ALL CAPS while a temporary indicator would be Proper Case. FIRE Fire

    2. Birth process change in order of operations. I know pretty much everyone uses the point-based system, but I think it could add an interesting element if, for "rolling", race could be selected first (or even randomly determined), then stats rolled, then class selected by player based on the roll. Of course, this would necessitate seeing the stats during the process, rather than at the end.
I imagine being able to sit down to play, not knowing ahead of time what race or class I will be playing. That, to me, would be an interesting challenge.

In the penultimate nightly (I didn't realize you'd just uploaded a new version while I was playing), @ descended stairs and used a mapping stave, with the result depicted in the attached. Namely, @ surrounded by walls in a single cell off to the left, and the entire dungeon (guessing it's a special room or vault) completely separated from @. Too far to phase door and no recall leave the @ stranded.

Edit: In fact, attempting either Phase Door or Teleport Self results in the game locking-up and eventually crashing.

Healers are occurring in warrior pits at the moment, as they're grouped in with ninjas and dagashi due to being the same colour. Adding "spell-ban:HEAL_KIN" to the entry in pit.txt should fix that. (Or changing the colour of healers, since it seems a little strange to have them grouped in with ninjas anyway - I feel like making them light green like druids might be a more logical choice.)

Latest builds are on the nightlies page, changes this time are:
    • Learning a rune now gives the old pseudo-id sound
    • Sauron (and Morgoth) now don't fail to reappear when alter reality is cast
    • Charge drain, eat food and eat light spells now (again!) show in green if the player doesn't have an appropriate object
    • Some technical fixes to dungeon generation; please report any more crashes on generation
    • Some new exotic level types can now (rarely) appear; again, please report problems or crashes
    • Some runes should be easier to learn, in particular runes are still learnt if the player saves against a spell effect; let me know which ones are still problematic
    • Treacherous weapon curse should now work

bio_hazard is pointing out that the two effects from the elemental rings are at odds -- enemies that would be hurt by a fireball are unlikely to be attacking you with fire damage (so the temp resist is useless), and vice versa. There's a point to be had there, but I think it's fine to only have one or the other effect be useful in a given situation, and I've always found elemental "inversion" (fire means cold damage, etc.) confusing. Especially if you want to posit that lightning and acid are somehow opposites.

In any case, I'd be somewhat worried if I were still using a Ring of Fire by the time Smaug came around!
