Is id-by-use fixed? New @ just picked up a sling on DL1 and used it. It now identifies as a Sling x2 (+0,+0) {wielded}. Shouldn't the {wielded} drop off having successfully fired this clearly average sling?

If pseudo-id kicks in, and then the sling is used, everything works fine, but an average weapon used before pseudo-id kicks in is not identified by id-by-use. Is this desired behavior?

Seems reasonable to me. I know the way egos are generated doesn't currently allow for it, but there's no reason you couldn't in future implement a type of ego that has some kind of slays/resistances etc. but no bonuses to hit or to dam. In which case you'd need the {wielded} tag to make the distinction between an item that pseudo has confirmed is average vs. one that might still turn out to be a Sling x2 (+0,+0) {excellent}.

@ just drank a Magenta Potion from a stack of 4 such potions on the floor. Result - no message and all of the potions disappeared. The flavor has not been ignored. So, why no message and where did the rest of the potions on the floor go?

EDIT: particularly frustrating, since when I found the next one I used a ?Identify on it and found it to be CCW. Robbed by a bug!

          Sounds reasonable to me too.

Just had a Lightning weapon ignored by the "excellent but not splendid" quality setting. In 3.5.1 anything that had an obvious effect upon wielding was "splendid". Admittedly, that did not result in the most rational outcomes in some cases. E.g., a Ring of Light was "splendid", a Shield of Preservation was not. If the categorization has been improved, that's great, but perhaps we could get an explanation of what now constitutes "splendid" so we know what we are ignoring with the setting.

Just took 284 turns to pick a lock. I think I double pressed the arrow key at the door. Could that be having an impact like it did with double reading a ?Scroll from the floor? That sounds like a stretch, but maybe.

Turncount reported for the Ladder posts is the wrong one. Instead of grabbing Standard Turncount, it is grabbing the Game Turncount.
I've reported this one to pav - Nomad's black doors and brands not being splendid will be fixed in the next update.

                Playing the latest...

Just quaffed an (un-ID'd) potion of resist cold and, oddly, it ID'd my (as yet un-ID'd) ring of fire and cold. Which was a bonus.

(I got the 'Your Rhodonite ring glows' message.)

When you get the treasure feeling for a level, the little "LF: 1-?" indicator at the bottom of the screen doesn't immediately update to reflect it, but stays showing ? until you move from your current square. (And it does require an actual movement, seemingly: e.g. standing still and shooting missiles at monsters doesn't cause it to update.)

I'm sorry, I spoke too soon, this is not fixed. Monster knowledge is still wiped away when you exit and reload a saved game in 69f9df6. (I'm wondering now if it's related, at least indirectly, to the business with Sauron and uniques only appearing once per gaming session. Reset of monster knowledge might at least explain why you get the 'seen but not dead' uniques back again after reloading.)

I'm sorry, I don't think I've explained this adequately. Monster memory is no longer in the savefile, it's in a file called lore.txt in your (on Windows) lib/user folder. If you're using the latest update and not transferring that over, it will have the effect of wiping your monster memory.

No, I mean all the entries in the monster knowledge list, accessed from the ~ menu, disappear if you exit and reload the savefile during a single ongoing game. The "display monster knowledge" option becomes greyed out, and there are no longer any listings available for previously encountered monsters - it's as if you've just started a brand new game and not seen a single monster yet.

I don't think the actual monster memory itself is being lost, at least not wholly - when I do re-encounter another instance of a previously met monster, it will tell me how many I've killed and resistances I've discovered (though it does seem to revert to "Nothing is known about its attack") - but the list entries in the knowledge menu keep disappearing.

Well, I don't know coding, but I've been reading through the edit files and have at least tracked down the problem AND solution on this one.

In class.txt, Door Creation is missing its desc: lines. Borrowing from 3.5.1, those lines should be:

desc: A door is created on each empty floor space that is directly
desc: adjacent to you. These doors are closed, but not locked.

They should be inserted in three places, for the spell in the Mage, Ranger and Rogue classes.

                            Update a05a05c fixes:
                            • Doors disappearing when opened by monsters out of view
                            • Branded weapons not registering as splendid
                            • Allow quickstart players to keep their family character history
                            • Matt's !Resist Heat bug
                            • Speedup to resting

Comments on the resting slowness are welcome - I looked at fizzix's profiling and did a single quick hack, so I'm interested to hear how much it fixes the problem.

The monster memory disappearing problem is really odd, and I haven't seen any indication of it yet. I did notice on trying to test in Windows that it sometimes got confused as to which lib\save folder to choose from, so maybe it is trying to read lore.txt from the wrong lib\user. I'll check that further.

EDIT: It's not up yet, but should be soon.

                              On the monster memory thing...

If you kill some uniques, then save and exit, then load up the file and go to the '~' menu, your kills have been deleted*. Well, I think the uniques still count as dead, but they are not on the list.

*Well, oddly, for me at least, only Grip remains...

Resting slowness may have improved, I can't tell. But running has slowed down. I can see @ tic-tic-tic-tic-tic across the floor as he runs down a hallway.
