I definitely find inscriptions helpful! !* on Word of Recall, !k on some items (especially those I only need one of like an amulet or ring), @f0=g or @f1=g on ammunition, @0 on weapons that I want to swap with the [x] key, @m1@b1@G1!v!k!d on spell book, etc., etc., etc. Every game I use inscriptions. And a magic class player that doesn't at least use them on spellbooks is just asking for trouble.Comment

I can play pretty well without inscriptions. On the first sight this just increases handling complexity.
Does anyone realy require a 'Are you sure?' confirmation question if he quaffs / drops / uses anything?
Spellbooks could get a fixed number, but one can do without as well.
Maybe think about abolishing this feature.
Things I inscribe with !*: ?WoR, ?DeepDescent, ?(Mass)Banishment, ?TeleLevel, ?Destruction
I use !k a lot as well. Basic spellbooks for example, to prevent them from stacking up too much by squelching them. Or boots of speed +10 (!k), squelching all non-artifact footgear.
People are playing 4.0 without keymaps, and I am very impressed by that feat, but me, I am not that hardcore and I am waiting for them to work again before moving to 4.0.Comment

I am still playing with keymaps for my spells but just my most frequently used ones which change as the game progresses. I keep an updated visual reminder so I know which key I have casting whatever spell.
Another bug:
Recharge times don't appear fixed for randarts. I have a ring that activates for Remove Curse and recharges in 492000 to 240480000 turns.
The ring also gives a moderately large bonus to just one stat much the same as other people have noted before and it gives acid and lightning immunity - should two immunities be on the same item?Comment

Angband 4.0 dev 2cddd71
Argh! Just crashed while battling a lowly 3 headed Hydra. Several blows and then boom! Crash! Don't know why, maybe I was pressing keys too rapidly. Just sucks I can't give any detail to help locate the bug.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

No one need worry, final 4.0 will still have inscriptions and keymaps working as for 3.5.1.
The current round of 4.0beta is for testing - it is expected to be unstable and sub-optimal. I am very grateful to all the people testing it, but I certainly don't want anyone to feel obliged to.One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

I just did a test where I went to 50’, cast destruction, light area, put down my lamp. I set the UI option to notify on recharge (which presumably would disturb me when done).
Before activating the ring I was on
Turns Used: 1,573,895
Standard: 306,049
Resting: 187,929
I rested a number of times for the maximum amount you can put in at any one time (9,999 turns) and I did get the message that the ring had recharged.
Turn count:
Turns Used: 1,771,933
Standard 372,049
Resting: 253,274
I don’t actually get the difference between Turns Used and Standard Turns but all up I needed to rest 65,345 before the ring recharged so I don’t think it’s a display bug. It is however well inside what the description on the item tells me the recharge time is. The difference in my Standard Turns now though is 198,038 which is a bit closer to the advertised recharge time.
Angband then crashed when I went to double check the recharge turn count on the ring (maybe because it can’t handle me resting so long).Last edited by AndyHK; April 4, 2015, 01:26.Comment

I’m playing g2cddd71 so the display bug was fixed a while ago.

Edit: Didn't realize how far behind in the thread I was, and that this was said several times already ...Comment

I didn't see it in the bugs list, maybe I missed it, but Thraalbeast noted that when posting his Beta 4.0 character to the ladder, the character name was appended with the character age.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. Update db2ee6d fixes- Bogus line at top of quality ignore menu
- Rogues and rangers learning spells too early
- Bad tile drawing on return from 'C' screen, knowledge menu, etc
- Egos IDing too early
- Armour with possible high resists not being recognised as such
- Pickup to quiver with full inventory
- Taking something off with full inventory now drops that thing
- Object selection usually starts with inventory
There have also been some fixes which I am hoping will completely stop crashes to do with "bad objects". In fact, I am hoping there are now no outstanding crash bugs, so let me know if I'm wrong.
40 bugs left on the tracker now, but there are some recent ones I haven't included yet.One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
