One of them works. I have about 100 of them, so answer is no, they don't work. For me too that makes game unplayable.Comment

I'm getting some inconsistent weirdness with inscriptions:
- Trying to read Identify scrolls inscribed {@r4} by pressing r then 4 gets the "Type '?' for help" message
- Trying to read Magic Mapping inscribed {@r6} reads one of my (uninscribed) Phase Door scrolls instead (they're in slot g, MM is in slot h), and then triggers a "No Available Target" message.
- Treasure Detection inscribed with {@r2} works correctly, as does my Rod of Door/Stair Location {@z3} and my Staff of Identify {@u4}
I did some further experimenting, and changing the inscription on the Identify Scrolls to {@r1} worked correctly. {@r3} and {@r5} are also fine. If I change it to the {@r6} slot I previously had the magic mapping scrolls in, that also reads my Phase Door scrolls from slot g, but does not come up with the no target message. If I drop the Phase Door scrolls on the floor and try reading r6 again, it opens the inventory.
* It appears to only affect items inscribed with the numbers 4 or 6 - any other number works correctly. (It definitely affects scrolls and staffs - haven't tested other item types.)
* What seems to be happening is that if you have, say, a staff inscribed {@u4} in slot q, typing u4 does not react as if you'd entered uq, but just q on its own - i.e., it triggers the quaff command. If that same staff moves to slot r and you type u4, it triggers the read command; if it's in slot s you'll search, etc. Same applies to scrolls: if you've got a scroll inscribed {@r4} in slot h and type r4, you'll get a "No Available Target." message as if you'd tried to use the h command.Comment

I finally have a replicable case of the squelch bug! Load the attached save file and use k or quality squelch to ignore all good missile weapons - the character is holding three crossbows and will drop them all at once, triggering the bug.Attached FilesComment

As far as the inscription thing goes, the main problem is that my rewritten object selection menu doesn't play nicely with the inscription code; basically, I think at some stage I'm going to have to redo the menu because it's causing problems everywhere. One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

I'm in a GV at the moment and I've just managed to trigger the same squelch-crash by reading the last of a stack of 'enchant weapon to dam' scrolls and, before that, by eating the last of a stack of 4 slime molds! (In a GV I usually try to clean up my item list by eating/quaffing/reading whatever I can).
Incidentally, on my item list is 'a phial', which is greyed out. I'm dying to know what's wrong with it and I'll let you know if I ever get to it. At the moment I'm saving every ten turns or so and I've squelch-crashed about a dozen times or more.
Given my tribulations with the Arkenstone (see post below), I'm not holding out much hope for the Phial. Having the Arkenstone give zero light is a bit of a blow for my warrior, and I'd kind of like to get him through the game, if I can.Comment

Not sure if this is related to the main squelch crash, but there's also a problem with using 'g' on a stack of items - it just automatically picks up the first item instead of prompting you to pick from a list, and sometimes this will cause you to actually pick up a squelched item. (The item is immediately recognised as on the ignore list and dropped again, which I assume returns it to the bottom of the stack, because if you press 'g' again you pick up something different. Although sometimes that turns out to be yet another squelched item.)Comment

Books have problems regardless of number. But even there it is inconsistent, m1a works, but m1b doesn't.Comment

It's not all progress - looks like I introduced the current squelch bug a few updates ago trying to make the quiver subwindow update properly
So 37cfc4c fixes that, and also stops traps from persisting in walls after earthquakes, etc.One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

I just found Narya on dlvl19. (easily my best find early game--apologies for the brag). What the heck was that forest troll doing with Narya?
My experience with the 4.0 beta has been overall better drops--I recognize that this is probably not actually true. Has there been any change to the drops?Comment

I can't be sure about this, but I think I've just had a mimic ID leak. I walked into a scroll mimic and I was told that the scroll of acquirement was really a monster. I think I haven't seen a scroll of acquirement before but, then again, there are quite a few empty bottles of red wine in my recycling right now...Comment
