Due to real life issues I haven't played at all these last weeks, I just recently had the chance to download the latest cutting edge nightly (2025), with ewert's item changes and magnate's armour improvements, and roll a character.
It might have been luck, but right away with the first char I defeated sauron and am in the process of going to battle morgoth.
Alas, a few notes on the most recent changes (please note that, as already stated, these come from only a single game, since I have yet to die )
- the early +1 / -1 potions are a bit too common now. Individually I find them a great addition and very balanced, but en masse one can pick and choose what to drink (ie only wisdom and strength in the case of my priest) and be a bit overpowered in the first levels.
- normal stat potion distribution now is perfect, even though (inevitably) they become a bit too common at the end, when stats are already maxed and scumming the last dlvls to kill uniques / get the final kit becomes necessary
- healing/life/etc potion distribution is perfect now, maybe they are even a bit too abundant (but in my case this may be because I'm playing a priest)
- mass banishment scrolls are still too rare
- rods of speed / magic mapping / detection / healing are still too rare
- ego arrows / bolts / shots are WAY too common, especially at the deeper dlvls.
- ego dragon scale mails are a great addition to the game, great job there.
btw, I'm thinking of tackling morgoth straight away, is the lack of rLight a serious problem? except the phoenix (which I killed) what do i have to look out for?
