That was pretty hilarious. "It's so powerful, I don't even need to wear the equipment." I hope you post more.

Yes, I laughed at that. Liked the background for the character too.

I think they usually fall in the 4-5 hour range. It's a bit misleading in the video... I slow down for problem situations, which arise much more frequently after 500'. I was simply showcasing how my artistry start (with Feanor) is so easy that I can hammer the keys with nearly complete abandon... well, when I remember to actually wear the stuff I forge that is. Also, I like to repeat dl19 many times, which adds significant time. It usually takes me an hour to escape once I have a silmaril where I spend the most time making decisions. My ironman character who cleared all the levels as opposed to scumming 19 was probably longer, maybe 6.

I'll often hit 500' in half an hour to an hour. Once the invisible demons show up, my game gets to about 1/2 speed of what I was doing on the video. My turncounts in games are usually pretty high, so my fast keystrokes aren't good ones. I've been playing roguelikes the same way for a little over 20 years so I'm really quite used to it. I feel more like the game is alive when things are happening quickly.

          Fun videos all round.

debo's char is very interesting, lots of potential ways to go here. That kite shield you found was amazing... 1d8... I've never found one of those. 2-16 protection when blocking! That's awesome, too bad you left it since you are considering focused attack which is good with blocking. I'm always tempted to get parry when I find one of the artefact swords aswell as/or dual wielding with a defender. One thing to remember for shadow spiders is that they are territorial, so you can always run to a corner to get it off you. For focusing with stabbing, I never pass a turn next to something that isn't sleeping. If it is unwary I pass a space away until it gets next to me, or use song of Lorien, which is heavenly for those chars.

I got a good laugh when you mentioned me in part 3, because you were exactly right.

HallucinationMushroom's video reminded me of some crawl players I know, crazy speed merchants. Our playstyles are quite contrasted... I have been playing around a little with recording stuff, so it's possible I might make a short video in the future if I can figure out how I want to do it.

@Hallucination, that was a fun video! I've been looking through debo's and fizzix's threads with videos but since the videos are so loong I can neved keep my attention up for a full 45-50 min. Now 13 min of quick keyjamming is more my style. I have yet to test Sil and I can't say that I learnt all that much from the first look (other than "wear what you forge") but I had a good time!

It's amazing how quickly the time goes! I think I lose a lot of time explaining things. I guess if I decide to do another one at some point after this guy is done, I'll leave off on a lot of the explanations and try to go much quicker.

Haha I think playlength is just one of those things that can't be balanced for everyone... Believe it or not I've had 4 PMs from people on YouTube asking me to make the videos _longer_

lol, 15 minutes might be the time limit imposed by the alcohol I am drinking. Perhaps 30 minutes in I get too honest... but, that might be fun.

I like when I see the longer video times because I'm usually at work listening to them. I don't usually see what is happening, but like a movie you've maybe seen 100 times I don't really need the visuals, like Star Wars.

I will have to watch your videos Fizzix. I must admit I have not watched them yet because I haven't played V since 3.06 was new so I figured I might be confused. Maybe I should watch your videos for just that reason... to re-familiarize myself. Judging from all the forum posts I barely half-read, there must be some big changes, but I wouldn't know first hand. I think I've played maybe 2 hours of V since 2006.

No harm in longer videos, or either way really, so long as they continue this nice little pace---the likes of this and the Angband LP currently ongoing really add a nice spark to the day that is missing otherwise.

Hmm. I was just thinking "There seem to be a lot of recent posts from people who have just started playing" - maybe it's all the youtube advertising.

I placed the link to my YouTube channel on the roguebasin page for sil, and I've had a few folks tell me they came from there. I'd encourage fizzix to do the same with his own series on the Vanilla page -- maybe we'll get some new converts!

Heh, I'd like to envision a flood of them in a hopeful situation where his Rogue is victorious then he casts Shockbolt for an extra-eyecatching Magic or Prayer centric run to follow it---since they have all those spiffy visually wrought toys and all.

There will definitely be a break after I finish this character. I have some extensive v4 coding plans in the near future that will take up my angbanding time. If I do another run I will certainly try to use Shockbolt's tiles.
