              Found a copy of vanilla 3.5.1 on an old hard drive and played a couple games. Randarts were wild back then. Found a pair of boots that were +7 STR, WIS, and speed, for example. Here's the character on the ladder (the boots are in the house).

                I play the old version too, though not because, but despite the randarts. The single p-value isnt so bad, in my opinion, the rule that makes all high value artifacts aggravate is, though. A typical game of old Angband with randarts enabled plays out in 2 phases: phase 1 which is almost a no-artifact game plus phial followed by the short phase of boss fights where I equip all the aggravating good items I collected.

                Edit: 3.5.1 already did away with aggravation

                  There are some powerful artifacts that aggravate in 3.5.1 but definitely not all. Apparently the algorithm used to create randarts then used standarts as a basis, and the spoiler file references this. So, you end up with things like this:

                      I haven't seen any spectacular randart launchers but the specialty launchers (Buckland, Lothlorien, Haradrim) can be very powerful. Last game I got a sling of Buckland (x4) (+13, +20) that let my mage get 3 shots/turn. They don't make 'em like that anymore. +5 DEX, too.
