(plus for a decidedly fragile character, the Gondolin route is a gentler learning curve, not that Si's likely to be bothered about that! I'd recommend that route to a newbie, though, as they'll find the Dorthonion route tough going at first).

Comments on the mage spell redesign: The attack spells are now more than strong enough to allow a mage to fight entirely with magic, especially in combination with Dimension Door and Clear Mind. Cacophony is possibly too powerful, with high damage, hit everything in sight, combined with its stunning effect which virtually no monsters were able to resist. I was able to advance to level 50 very quickly by "dispelling" demon pits. The rune spells were a bit disappointing. Speed and Protection saw a fair amount of use, but Mana and Power didn't seem to have any noticeable effect. Is this a bug, or have I overlooked something?

A minor bug: the Clvl associated with events recorded in the character dump seems to be somewhat scrambled, something I don't think I've seen before in previous versions.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the new mage class. Faye's low HP count never seemed to be a problem, although I did employ a very timid play-style for most of the game. With hindsight, I think a win in around 200k moves is a good target. Fittingly, given the changes to item curses, the wonderful (+6 to int and con!) randart amulet is actually cursed. I won’t give away what the curse was, but it was a small price to pay for such a nice item.

Also interesting to see you found Ringil too. That's at least three in this comp. Something is going on with artifact generation methinks.

I hadn't thought of using cacophany on pits (I'm on the border of being able to use it as failure is currently 20% now I have that amulet) - that seems like a good idea to get the XP I now need.

In alpha/beta testing I always used the power runes to launch my offences from - they add a certain percentage to your attack spells.

With regard to the power rune, when I browse my spells when standing on one, there was no indication of any increase in damage.
