started off as a beastman, then spent some time as a draconian, then a human, now a zombie, which seems to suit me fine for now, although something with more intelligence may be necessary. had some very nice drops and rewards so far, including a fur cloak of ether and the boots of speed...just threw this dump up, i'm still in the process of shuffling around my equip. just got that lovely elven cloak - which is nice enough to give me cause to abandon the cloak of ether (which i will keep around as a swap)...now that i have telepathy covered from the cloak, i need a good amulet (although for now, the extra saving throw doesn't hurt). also need to cover res blind soon, but thats not too urgent...and of course, the biggest prob w/ this character is his weapon, which is shamefully inadequate. i recently missed buying a very nice elfblade randart when i ran a few towns over to get a substantial loan, and then alchemied a flail of fury +4 before i remembered they granted extra blows...ughh...hoping i find something suitable soon, but good weapons seem to be somewhat rare in z+...weapon damage in z+ is also calculated in a manner very different from tome. here, high weapon base damage is often preferable, where in tome, blows per round matter more than almost anything else. not sure which system i prefer, or which is more convincing, but it's been interesting adjusting to it.
still, all in all coming along ok, although i'm somewhat unfamiliar with zang, so im taking it a little slow as not to make any stupid mistakes. feeling somewhat confident, but i've had some very close calls (fire breaths from iron lich and scylla were a LOT stronger than i'd expect from monsters at this depth - dunno how rare fire immunity is in zang, but boy would i like it...).

reworked equip and gained a level or two. diving around 55/56 or so. switched from multi-hued to balance dsm for better resists and a breath that less monsters resist. need a better source of resist fire/elec, having to use a paltry amulet of resistance for the time being, and still need res blind, but not worried about that. finally got a half-decent weapon, which is making a big diff already. other than that, just time to gain some levels, which seems substantially slower than in ToME, but maybe im just not confident enough to know what risks to take.

just an update - this character was killed just a little while after my last update. i had made it to lvl 40 or 41, was at depth 64 or 65 maybe, and things were going very very smoothly. i had taken out many balrogs, so thought that taking on a couple lesser ones was not going to be a big deal. i was taken down from 600+ hp in just one turn - i'm not sure if they both breathed on me at once, or what, exactly. it was a bit shocking, and a total bummer. i had pegged this character one that was going to make it to lvl 50, possibly even a winner. i definitely should have polymorphed to lose the fire vulnerability!! it seems my last character sheet didn't export right or something, either. oh well. will start another character sometime next week. need to focus on work for a little while!
