Well, this little hobbit is no speed diver. Anyhoo, I'm working on playtesting the alpha 21 code that I've modified to see if there are any problems, either with my changes or the code I inherited. I've already found and fixed a few, and I hope to release something within a week or two.

I rolled a high int, probably thinking I'd be playing a spellcaster, but it seems I've taken the oath or iron, which means none of that. I've gotten my first extra half shot with the sling, and I've gotten a speed boost from karate, but I'm still shy of my third blow. I think it's coming soon, either by increasing dex or by increasing karate. I'm looking forward to it showing up. Ugh. bronze dragons are meanie heads, and almost ran me out of CCW, but luckily I survived and restocked.

Quest rewards have been money (x2), FA ring, !oDragonform, !oWis, and !ofCha. Not terribly useful. Crafting has been mediocre at best, but I'm not terribly familiar with results from bowmaking, so maybe it's not bad. Seriously lacking in second ring potential, and drops have been, well, not above par. Spear was recent, and useless, but would be spiffy for most.

Woot! Just picked up my third attack at karate=60, either from the dex pump or the skill pump (I think it was the dex). Also, just finished the Algroth quest (I thought I was going to be hosed, but they didn't deal nearly as much damage as I thought they would). Also, having a small supply of !oRPois, and a larger supply of holy chant makes things go a lot easier. Reward was a potion of gain skill, which was prompty quaffed (not like I knew what it was).

I've found a potion of str, a potion of con (but negated by earlier potion of sickliness). Here's to more con, dex, and str!

All in all, I was hungry, so I bought out the general store of ale and wine, and got myself flat drunk.

Anyhoo, a couple of potions of dex later, I'm a powerhouse in the offense category. 5 blows at 36ish each is *amazing* damage for this depth, but my dex is *really* high. I might have to tone done mid-game damage with karate (probably making the damage linear + quadratic rather than just linear in skill.

Not to mention, getting my extra might with a sling to go with my extra shot. And finding a sling of velocity (+8, +20) really helps. A bit of forging and buying has netted me a heap of magic ammo, but I need to practice more to increase the skill. I'm guessing I'll stop raising most of the other skills (non-combat) now. OF course, stealth is being really, really amazing with this character. What else should I have guessed with a hobbit...

Keeping a good stock of CCW potions really helps in the low hp dept. Also, having the basic resists is quite useful.

Anyhoo, stat gain is basically done (aside from a bit of dex), equipment is approaching end-game. Still need better rings, and I'd love a drop of a dozen potions of speed in the alchemist. Karate 6 * 42 = 244, which is good end-game damage. Can use scrolls of elemental damage for another 6 * 14 + 244 = 328, a likely end-game possibility.

Sling is 4 (shots) * 3 (might) * 3 (base) * 2.19 (dealiness) = 79 or so, though using seeker shots (I'll have plenty soon), I deal 131 before crits, and I expect a lot of crits though, which add 1-3 dice or 50% to 150% more damage. That's assuming unbranded ammo, which until late-game isn't terribly likely for normal use.

Goodness gracious, it's really hard to practice ranged weapons. I find I generally just raise a ranged skill from around 90 to 100 with the skill cost in the red. It's too slow to practice, as they deal a lot less damage than melee, and have limited charges/ammo.

Oh, and anytime the game wants me to, it can drop any of the following: thorin, dor-lomin, narya, tulkas, vilya, or nenya. Or dwarven boots of speed would be acceptable as well. Thanks in advance.

Call me crazy if you will, but I'm going in against Morgy with a 873 HP hobbit at +15 permaspeed. Sauron was a real bear, but mostly because Gabriel was running around Sauron like a chicken with it's head cut off, and I didn't want to deal with him.

I've been collecting scrolls of elemental damage all game, as I'll need them for Morgy. I'm really torn between my two slings. Shots +3 is really nice, giving me the most damage output per round (especially with slays), but it means that I'll get something like 20 energy per turn to Morgy's 35 or so. That means grauitous double moves when I'm not slinging. And I don't like that.

I guess I'm wishing now that I hadn't thrown away that ring of speed +5... I figured I'd find something better. And now the ring of con is completely uesless (more or less). Maybe I'll scum briefly on 99 for something useful. I'm just afraid I'll die there. I'd much rather die fighting Morgy, if you know what I mean. I think maybe teleportation to heal might with the sling of extra shots+3 might be the right solution. Bugger, I need to think about this.

At least I have plenty of ammo...

Chances of getting the loot seem moderate. Most of the uniques are gone, and the terrain is torn up, but there's a GWoP to deal with as well, along with choosing what to drop out of inventory.


Other uniques I saw on the level
Murazor, Gothmog (already there), Gabriel, Omarax (never work up), Tarrasque, !Xok, Rorag, Vecna, Qzzlup, Cantoras, Emperor Quylthulg, Dwar, and Smaug. That's all the one's I have seen but not killed, and I saw them all on this level. Honestly, I don't think I could take Cantoras in a fair fight.
