I've been meaning to post this guy for a while. I'm holding my breath on getting life drain for Mormegil--it's the last piece to the puzzle, I think. I think I'll go finish leveling it in Angband--I've already cleared crypt and dimgates. I've had a few close calls, but I'm amazed at how powerful these unbelievers can be. As for kit, I have so many immunity items that I probably have a better setup, but I'm too lazy to calculate one. By the way, is the bug with extra attacks on sting and mormegil well known? Both swords get extra attacks whenever they gain any stat boost like strength or charisma. It's not a display bug either; they really do get the extra attacks.

First winner, and boy was it easy. I peppered him with slay evil seeker bolts, then struck the killing blow with Mormegil. My dark sword of life stopped all his spells and summons (the 1% fail scared me a bit).

I'm torn between using Morgoth's and Gorlim's for when I try the Void. Gorlim would be solely for the damage, since it doesn't give me anything I don't already have. Morgoth would put an end to my stat issues and let me use a different light source--that palantir is HEAVY. Does 500 extra damage balance out with all that? I can't decide; y'all do it for me. ;)

Well, I'd go with Morgoth, mainly because one of the things that's likely to happen in the Void is for Melkor to turn you into an abomination. This can be quite nasty on your stats if you aren't wearing it. Beyond that, I don't have much to suggest, except that you if you plan on using Mormegil in the final fight, you might want to try disenchanting it a bit on a Ringwraith (if any are still around). You already have more hit points than I did when I took on Melkor with a similar character (dump is here); I'm not exactly sure how your damage compares though.

Anyway, good luck (if you haven't already proceeded), and remember there are only two monsters down there you actually have to kill.

Thanks for the response. Your Glieg was in part the inspiration for my Abrasax. I have been trying to equal his number of attacks and damage (hence considering Gorlim, and I only had 19 attacks--still enough to take 1 star from Morgoth per round, though).

You make a good case for Morgoth's Crown, but the point is moot. I was fiddling with Mormegil at the bottom of Angband and somehow corrupted my save file. I wanted to see if the level-up powers were set at creation or rolled at each level-up, and...well...screwed everything up. Abrasax didn't die he just ceased to exist.

I'm not too sad about it. I was just going to be ripping through dragon pits and the like, looking for better stuff. Having killed Morgoth was enough to satisfy me, so I'll probably take up vanilla again.
