Ah, anyway. Paladin feels strong enough and nicely balanced. Hard to make a comparison though as I don't remember its old set of prayers. Didn't get the wisdom up so I could've effectively used big book spells. I already left recall scrolls once but decided to carry em again, after one recall attempt by prayer required two potions of Restore Mana

I teleported out from Phoenix only to land right next to the door of a Giant Pit. Started running away and Cyclopes kept pelting me with boulders. When I was over 10 tiles from the Pit's outer edge, I dared to use Phase Door. But grossly miscalculated. Not only did it land me back there, but on the worst imaginable tile.

Probably should have risked to teleport but Phoenix could have instakilled me too. Big heal spell was a bit too unreliable to cast next to a cyclops and having less than half health. In retrospect, that would have been a better idea. Most likely.
