The age of the kobold!!! Killing the thieves gave CL6, but learning and casting spells was enough for CL8. Wargs for CL15? I just need to find a way to kill stuff, and this will be hard. I guess I need to dig a bit ...

Scummy digger, but with a Craft HM, there is little option. I certainly like the early availability of the heavy crossbow, but before one plunks down a bunch of hard earned cash for ?ToDam, be sure to scum for an enchanted one from the shop. Just sayin' ...

1 undead mass down, and CL20 already! I went with Int for my CL20 level up figuring I really want to be able to cast building up. The only problem was my Int had been neglected in lieu of fighting stats, but a fortuitous double gain made my day! Now, Undead masses to CL25 and another Int gain :D

If clay is good, iron is better, no? 40% fail though ... So I'll be sticking with clay and building up for the foreseeable future. Geez, I've almost caught up to Dave's demigod again. Why is he so slow?

OK, that's just sick. Thievery from Nar, Merry from the ground, and now Cambeleg from Wutugu.

One bad side effect of the kobold is they level so fast that they stop gaining weapon skills. So, I switched to a burning blade for two handed wielding, but I'm locked with the pathetic penalties from being unskilled. A quick source dive reveals my foe must be at least level 17 for me to train melee ... OK, deeper I go :)

One upshot to ironman quests is the ability to retrench. I got Kharis the Powerslave is shoot posture, which make for a summoning, cursing golem killer! Ah, I mean kobold killer. Anywho, I decided to recall and scum another ring of damage, and ended up with this +11 ring for 41k. Pricey :)

But now, Kharis is going down hard!

Oh, and than thanks alot for your hard work on making the best/craziest variant even moreso.

Cheers!

I went looking for Ishikawa in his usual spot, and found him almost immediately. His uber katana is well worth a !Speed, me thinks, and now my lowly kobold damage output has rocketed all the way to 304 per round ... on just 3 attacks! 7 more levels for mana branding.

At some point, I'll need courage for Smaug.

Smaug fortunately stayed asleep while I snuck up on him, which is saying something since my stealth is pretty darn poor (I wasn't berserking at the time, but golems can't sneak!)

All of my master's spells are 4% fail except passwall, which is 44% fail :-P

And Dave, even I am doing more damage than my CL47 kobold Mindcrafter!

Hm... you tempt me to try a Craft Rogue with all your newfangled polymorphing spells. What are the effects of Iron Golem? I'm seeing +4 STR DEX CON in the mod section, but it also looks like your race stats have been changed...

BTW, what's with this?

i) a Large steel chest (Gleaming Black Runes)

Craft is best enjoyed as a mage or a high mage. As a rogue, you won't have access to the high end spells. Still, there is the traditional craft awesomeness of the master's notes, and polymorphing is great for buffing melee, unless you pick a race more powerful then the various golem forms.

Do you want spoilers on the various golems? They help with fighting but also start coming with speed penalties after clay ...

Regarding Golems: 17 HD seems a little high since the highest standard race is 14 (and Polymorph Demon Lord also only gives 14). +90 melee skill looks about right; a clvl 50 warrior has 190 melee skill bonus, compared to 128 for Ranger and 58 for Mage.

Where is the extra +4 STR DEX CON in the Mod section of your character sheet coming from? Is that another Craft spell?

Demon Lord:

* Other: HL, RChaos, RNether, ImmFire, RAcid, RCold, RElec, RPois, RConf, RDisen, RNexus, RFear, AuraFire, SI, Telepathy, Lev, KillWall, +5 speed, +20 AC.

Poly Colossus is on par with Poly Demonlord though not quite so late. I can tone down the HD a bit, but I think the Colossus is still waaaaaaay weaker than the Demonlord! Even the -10 relative speed makes a huge difference.

Maybe I'll do 13 for mithril and 15 for Colossus? They are bigger than Half Titans :)

I'm not telling where the +4 Str/Dex/Con comes from ... You need to play to find out!

Why is Con so damn important? "All I want to do is get more Con. I got a feeling I'm not the only one."

I busted Dwar at CL34, though that doesn't seem right? I mean, I'm still clearing the level and what, I'm CL42? Oh yeah, a pit full of Greater Basilisks will help out. Not so easy without resist dark or nether, but with passwall now reliable, not so hard anymore either. I had a couple early moments where I could have died thanks to Passwall running out and me lacking the sp for more than a single near 40% fail rate attempt!

Polymorph Mithril still fails too high for use. So does Mana Branding ... sigh.

There! CL50 in just over 5hrs ... I guess I'll head over for The Old Castle shortly. Now that I have my favorite-est artifact ever (Eternity) I can swap in a ring of nether resistance. At the moment, I'm busting thru 95 Dracoliches without nether resist, so I guess it is somewhat optional.

Chris: I have a dumb question for you over at the screen dumps. I'm trying to figure out why my screen view changed from v00.38 to v00.66; I can see much less of each level in version 66. Dave said to copy Chengband.INI from version 38, but for some reason I don't see that file in that or other earlier versions (but it is there in version 66). Do you know what's going on?

You probably just need to change your font ... Window | Font | Term 0 menus. If that fails, just delete the file (Chengband.ini) ... It is being distributed by accident. HTH.
