Nice Chardros start ... 5 augmentations by CL20. Aching joints is a pretty lousy mutation, and I'll remove it as soon as I can afford the service. Now, I shall enter the Pits of Angband!

Ah ... that's better. First trip to Zul in under 1 hour! DL6 and 12 quest rewards were insignificant. I subsequently picked up the rand art 'Rustbringer' which is pretty decent. Now begins the wait for essentials:
[1] Free Action
[2] See Invisible
[3] Base Resistance

Ouch ... non-monk characters are so weak :D Low AC, no stunning effects, low damage output. Though, I can barely kill an Ice Wyrm without needing to heal (risky!). Itangast just dropped a RoS +7, so we'll see if that helps.

My plan for this character was to dual wield. However, my ultra heavy Holy Avenger has put that plan on hold. Sting was a no go, as I drew both Gachapin and Father Dagon, and I lacked Confusion, Chaos and Poison resistance at the time.

OK, I better build dual wielding skill now, while I can. Chaos warriors start unskilled, but can become expert. So, I figure what better way to train than to slaughter 200-300 Warriors of the Dawn (DL45)?

3 ?Acquirement produced ... junk :(

300 Warriors of the Dawn and a Maulator. Pretty easy, except that I was planning on relying on my -Detection to find the Time Bombs, but alas, if you lack See Invisible, then detection won't find them either.

I am now skilled at dual wielding for my troubles. I'll have to remember how useful the Killing Fields is for this purpose!

Anubis has finally taken his true form!

The Cloning Pits was fairly routine, except that a Jurt clone nearly killed me. You see, I had put down my _Speed and ?Teleport to take on the Rogrog clones, but I forgot I left a Jurt unslain. He kept blinking and invoking Logrus on me ... Had me down under 200hp and out of healing before I finally got next to him. Soulsword was the big prize ... and Shiva's boots, of course.

Next, the top of the lair gave a bubble vault. Awesome! Except I immediately leveled up to CL36 and Chardros destructed the entire freakin' vault. Jerk! Well, almost the entire vault. He left 4 excellent objects for me, and one was Grayswandir. Now I have a good kit for dual wielding at last.

I keep running into GCV and bubble vaults. I'm up to 3 now, but I've only managed to score a handful of items. Destroyer and Wahha, Raphael and Cantoras, Spectral Wyrms and such have all frustrated me. I really don't know how I'm not dead yet ...

Anyway, Brand dropped his crossbow, pleasing me greatly. Now, where is Dworkin?

Colluin from a pit of Mature Red Dragons!! Nice ... I'm having trouble covering resistances though. Without Sound and Shards, I am hesitant to go deeper in the Dragon's Lair.

Dual Wielding Skill: !Excellent

Anubis is feeling very evil now. Having acquired the dark sword, and equipped with the foul harness, I am finally ready to slaughter!! Muhahahahahah!!

Another GCV ... I sold out to kill Uriel, but failed despite investing 5 !Healing. So, I had to *destruct* in order to get to a 4d5 long sword. Ringil? Nope ... Gurenki. At least it is keeping me in character ...

I'm doing the Angband dive. With aggravation, it is more tedious than normal. Quests thru DL76 without much problems, but I don't quite feel up to DL88, unless I get Gothmog or perhaps one of the outer space gods.

I really can't believe I am still alive ...

Dio Brando started chain summoning 'The World', which was rather annoying. Each time, I had to heal once time resumed, and then he would cast again. I think he did this 4 times in a row, with me doing nothing but healing. Thank goodness for these 2 staves of healing ... They have gotten about 100 uses so far. So, I finally slayed Dio (I was single wielding at the time) and he dropped his cursed helm. Now, since I can't seem to find any sort of decent head gear or gloves, I quickly donned the helmet and turned myself into a vampire. I forgot to check whether I had any sort of light resistance. Nope! Other than a Tulwar of Chaos that is beneath me ... Well, I could conquer the yeek cave for the ring, but I think I will just keep myself in Demon form. And I'm back to dual wielding again. With Evil Bless, !Heroism, and Demon form I can hit about 57% accuracy vs. AC175. If I could ever land Fingolfin or Cambeleg, I think I can break 60%.

The other advantage of becoming a vampire is that it re-rolls your life rating. I went from 91% to 99%.

[CL49:DL95] 11:17
63% dual wielding accuracy vs AC175 ... and still no Fingolfin or Cambeleg! I should be able to dual wield for the final battle after all ... My evil plan is to dual wield Ringil and Vorpal Blade, with rings of Vilya and Narya, together with Shiva's armor for a whopping 12 attacks with extreme accuracy! Can it happen? Probably not ...

The Norsa dropped Werewindle, which I felt I had to use for its light resistance (Trying to feed myself is a PITA). However, after about 10 minutes, I realized that is the most annoying weapon ever invented. Unless you don't want to actually kill anything ... sigh.

So back to Gurenki and Zarcuthra.

It's a pity, since it would be quite a nice weapon otherwise!

I'm getting a little frustrated since I can't seem to find those last 3 wanted uniques. And one of them is Qzzlzzuup, which will be hard to kill anyway.

In a supreme moment of embarassment, Ulik the Toll nearly killed me. He got 3 earthquake criticals, none of which I dodged, and he managed a staggering 700+ hp in a single round. He's something like a CL56 unique? That would have been embarassing, but I had 26hp to spare ...

On 8.4.2010 00:41 kingvictory2003 wrote:
To be honest, all the hard-hitting earthquake melee monsters area threat unless your AC is closer to the 200 range. Even then, one would be wise to be cautious. Glad you made it alive.

Qlz is indeed a frustrating unique to find, as he seems to spawn somewhat rarely, and he can be difficult to get close to at times. Fortunately, he and the emperor Q are detectable by telepathy. If he spawns in a corridor, perfect--just tunnel to him and off him. If not, I would suggest careful *destruction*ing, to get close to him before he goes apeshit with summons.

Recall scumming with the Palantir allowed me to locate a wanted orc. While tracking him down, Qlzqqlzuup spawned with reasonable position, so I got two corpses for the price of one. The last was Ansalom the Dark Wizard, and I ended up stair climing the Dragon's Lair and activating the Palantir.

So, the artifact?
a) The Diamond Edge 'Vorpal Blade, Jr.' (8d5) (+25,+25) (+4 to speed) {SpWiDg;Bs|ES~Good~PZ}

Its passable. The electric brand is moderately useful, though I really wanted slay evil for the Serpent. +4 speed and 8d5 dice ... OK. Probably one of my better artifacts.

On 8.4.2010 01:07 chris wrote:

Sometimes he goes "ant-shit" instead ... I love it when he does that.

You know when Oberon is difficult, that is a bad sign. For him, blindness resistance is required, so I shuffled and single wielded, and used more precious !*Healing* then I ended up using versus the Serpent!

So, I insisted on dual wielding, and went with Zarcuthra for the sound resistance. With Demon Lord, Heroism, Blessing, Stone Mask, and the Harness, I was very accurate (~65%). Its a shame about that dispel magic which dropped my accuracy by nearly 25%! So, every time that happened, I needed to rebuff ...

I went down with 32 !Healing, 12 !*Healing* and 7 !Life. It was too close on the resources for my comfort, but I still had plenty left over I guess. Since I never found the Jewel (again!), resources were tighter than they otherwise would have been.

Congrats on YAWP!

If you think about it, that diamond edge artifact you got has just about equivalent damage dice to Zantetsuken, better bonuses, and is pretty much an automatic Lightning Eagle (well not quite as powerful, maybe). Not bad at all. I always idly wonder if a scroll of artifact creation used on a diamond edge would ever grant extra attacks? Probably not, although one can hope, no? :)

Check out Dave's Jon Snow on the Entroband ladder. Here is one sick weapon:

a) The Diamond Edge 'Longclaw' (7d5) (+23,+25) (+2 attacks) {AtDxDg|SM/*}

7d5 * 2 * 11/9 * 7/2 damage from damage dice alone ... crazy. And +2 attacks. But only Dave can be so lucky ;)

Here is the best I ever did:
a) The Diamond Edge '*ZANTETSUKEN*' (7d6) (+27,+21) (+4) {Dg;Fe|SM/*UL(In}
7d6 * 2 * 11/9 * 7/2 ... so slightly better damage per strike, but no extra attacks :(

Nice win!

Wow, somehow I never realized you could un-Vampire yourself from the Stone Mask. Never occurred to me to even try, really.

Wow, that's a tremendous diamond edge. For some reason my characters who find a diamond edge never end up getting scrolls of artifact creation, while those who get the scrolls one way or another never find a diamond edge. My current bard picked up a diamond edge a little while ago, but Habu's corpse was blown up by something and while he's ready to go after the Babble I'm not excited about his chances.
