You don't need those rings early on, should have sold them to enchant your bow.

thanks for the advice about the weight especially. I was concerned about damage to the lantern, that's why i was carrying the torch.. the lanterns I just happened to have picked up not long before dying.. I was planning on selling them had I not found something more valuable .

Lanterns aren't worth much per pound.

In order of importance, here's how I get gold.

1. Magic weapons, if you're playing a warrior, rogue or paladin so you don't waste identify on average ones. I keep the excellent ones at home for when I see something in the black market and need 5000+ gold fast.

2. Wands and staves, always worth identifying. Confusion, sleep monster and slow monster are especially good. Keep wands of light for taking out snagas and cave orcs.

3. Rings and amulets, but most of the early ones are junk.

4. Unidentified scrolls and potions gets you some early cash, especially with non-warriors.

5. Mining treasure out of walls with a shovel, if you can't get wands to sell or your race gets bad prices (dwarf, half-troll, half-orc).
