    In PCB, the Elder giants have WAY more breathing power, HP, and melee power, and move much faster than their younger counterparts.

      This has probably been mentioned already:
      You can escape from ambushes if the nearby monsters are asleep during the ambush. And occasionally, sleeping monsters DO show up during ambushes.

      Edit: I keep mentioning this because [1] ambushes by sleeping monsters and [2] being able to flee from ambushing sleeping monsters just don't seem right.

For fun I added more uniques and some normal monsters, some copied from some other variants and some my own. elliptic has been helping me test and has added them to his fork, feel free to do so yourself. For anyone else, just copy the spoilered text and put it at the end of lib/edit/r_info.txt and then increase the limit for r_info in lib/edit/misc.txt.

          (Posting here in hopes that chris sees it at some point... also, skillmasters are great!)

          As many here know, I play a modified version of poschengband with a bunch of changes (by me and several other people), most with fairly minor gameplay impact. The repository is at https://github.com/elliptic/elliposchengband. The git history is a bit messy because of merging and/or rebasing on new versions of poschengband as they are released, so I've organized the changes from vanilla poschengband into a changelog (for more details and proper attribution, see the actual commits):



          Anyway, I'd love to see some of these changes get into regular poschengband. Certainly I don't expect everything there to be accepted, but I imagine a decent number of them might be of interest. Personally I find a lot of the "interface" changes to be pretty substantial quality of life improvements, and I've been happy with the actual gameplay changes as well (e.g. clouded's new monsters are quite good).

            Isn't this just PCB's way of dealing with stealth? You get ambushed but you manage to hide anyway. So monsters are asleep because that's how stealth works here.

              This has happened *a lot* with many of my own characters with Bad Stealth

              And clouded's new monsters should be incorporated into future official releases of chris's PosChengband!!!!!

                    Maybe the skillmaster help page could use a word of caution about combining archery and riding? From my one attempt at this combo, there is a -30 to hit penalty to shoot when riding, which makes it pretty unplayable. Looking at the code calc_bonuses() in xtra1.c if I'm seeing it right, Beastmaster and cavalry classes can get a reduced penalty but skillmaster does not.

                          Try deleting the PosChengband.INI file. And yes, PosChengband 5.0.5 not working on XP could be related to a Library file missing.

                                Skillmaster balance

                                The Skillmaster's archery bonus seems like it's maybe too strong. They get the full +1.50 shots/round as soon as they've invested 5 points. For the actual Ranger and Archer classes, this firing speed bonus scales with clvl. In fact, a real Archer takes until CL38 to be better than a Skillmaster at the only thing his class does! (But by that point the Skillmaster has 7 more points worth of skills in addition to the archery.)
