Hmm, the savefile is from 14.06.2008 and looks similar to the one I've already received from you... And the bats are very far away... -

Sadly, not. Even if I disable all 2ndary window views and close all those windows, the game still crashes at the very same spot:
Instead of crashing with the first Green Bat breathing, it crashes now when the (I think) last of the 3rd pack breathes. Interestingly enough, I kill at least 2 more (and get breathed at by them) at the very same spot and at the very same angle, without moving at all ("5" key). As soons as the 3rd come around the corner and breathes, **crash** ..Leave a comment:

Tough luck, buddy. Is it only when you play with multiple windows?
My guess is, that's the Windows UI Unangband subsystem, subtly broken by the move to 256 colors. Can't debug it, can't steal it from V, since V does not have 256 colors and I'm reluctant to steal it from NPP (256 colors all right), because the Un version is much more advanced, I"ve heard (mouse, 3D Dolby wide screen movie mode, whatnot). Anyway, even after stealing I'd have to debug it...Leave a comment:

Just shifted my attention elsewhere temporarily
Acutally, what else could I do?
The game still crashes, if less, though, but the WinDbg debugger does not like the debugging version of the game ... therefore I'm at a loss somehow.
Atm, I hope the crashes get fixed automagically with the next version ..Leave a comment:

Thanks!
That would be great. There are no grave complains agains gold2 so far (Arralen has given up, apparently), so it may stay the stable version of Un for a long time. Till gold3 or even directly 0.6.3beta.Leave a comment:

Bandobras: I was playing Unangband 0.6.2 Gold and it crashes on WinXP and Win2k. But now I downloaded gold2 and it seems that it works. I am very sorry for bothering you. I was not sure what version I am playing because if I press V in game it says just Unangband 0.6.2. Again I am sorry, next time I will be more careful.Leave a comment:

Thanks a lot for the report. Could you also attach the savefiles just before dungeon generation (savefile_name.bkp)? What operating system is that?
Edit: Bummer. I can't crash the game with any of the savefiles on my Linux box with gold2. Do you get a hardened orc captain and a pack rat with Xena3, when going up? Or just a crash and nothing more? Could anybody else try the savefiles?
Edit2: I get the same hardened orc captain and a pack rat, instead of a crash, with the windows version under Wine on Linux. No more help possible from me, I'm afraid... If somebody can reproduce the crash and send me a backtrace (a list of procedure calls with line numbers that led to the crash) I can start the detective work again. I suspect M$, by the way.
Edit3: If somebody does not get this crash on Windows XP (is it your system, lenochware?) I'd like to hear, too. Then it might be corrupted installation (over an old install, etc.).Last edited by Bandobras; June 21, 2008, 23:33.Leave a comment:

up staircase crash
Hello.
Here is savefile of my character in Edoras: Xena1 Game crashes when I go to up staircase. And again in next level: (Xena2) And again in next level: (Xena3).
Now I am in Isengard and it is same picture: game crashes very often, but not always. If I load some of savefile above and I am playing for a while, I can go up without crash. In another dungeons (Redhorn Pass for example) it never crash. Maybe it has to do with smaller dungeon size in Isengard and Edoras..?Leave a comment:

You know what, the recovered savefile has again all the Cheat options turned on. But not the debug nor wizards mode, so it's legit. Apparently, the wrongly saved dungeon data in the savefile overwrote the options data. Other options may also be changed, so I reset them with '=R'. I hope nothing else is broken and I hope the savefile corruption fixes in gold2 are enough to prevent anything like that in the future. Have fun.Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Okay, here it is, and thanks again!Attached FilesLeave a comment:

Indeed. I thought it was your choice, but if it's not you, I must have turned on all the '=5' options. I wonder if I have turned on Ctrl-a, as well. If you wish, attach the original savefile again and I'll try again.Leave a comment:
