OK, so takkaria and I have turned out our pockets, looked under the couch cushions etc and failed to find 3.0.7s and 3.0.7s2. Anyone else have them? Relic? Anyone?

I have 3.0.7s3, does it help?

[edit]Nevermind, it isn't sources, just windows compile.

Weren't those unofficial releases done by someone other than the maintainer, during the interim between 3.06 and Takkaria taking over?
You read the scroll labeled NOBIMUS UPSCOTI...

Technically, yes. However, given that the person that did those unofficial releases was takkaria, they can probably be regarded as part of the main development trajectory

3.0.7s3 we do have, because it was the first commit to the subversion repository that takkaria started when he took over as official maintainer. It's just the s and s2 releases that we're missing.

There was "official" maintainer between Robert and Takkaria, but I can't remember his name. He didn't do much, and pretty much disappeared when Takkaria took over. Looks like 3.0.6 has already Takkaria as maintainer (starting screen mentions Andrew Sidwell).

I think all releases were more or less Takkarias work between Robert and him.

[edit] found the name: Julian Lighton. Good guy, but didn't have time IIRC to be maintainer.

Julian's the one that introduced the new high-level amulets and a bunch of titan uniques and so on, isn't he?

Nope, that was Jonathan Ellis, JLE as opposed to JL. Jonathan was never maintainer, just a key contributor in the 2.9.x era. Robert bumped the major version number to reflect the extent of Jonathan's changes.

Julian never released anything, but he was grateful for takkaria's unofficial releases as doing necessary groundwork. When, after Julian had been absent for a long time, some sadistic person proposed takkaria should be officially maintainer, he was universally accepted.

I have tracked down the JLE patches to 2.9.1, 2.9.2 and 2.9.3, and they will be included as a branch.

Not that you're naming names or anything.

The Angband Variant Repository is now live and fairly well populated. The README on the Github page has instructions on how to get source code from it.

Its chief purpose is to have all the Angband and variant code in one place from which it is easy to get.

It is a work in progress.

For people used to how git repositories work, this one doesn't work like that. The master branch is just a dummy, and other branches (sometimes multiple branches) may be completely rewritten if previously undiscovered source code comes to light (Zangband 2.0.0, for example).

The branches currently up (aside from Angband and Hengband) contain all the source code I have to hand; if anyone has stuff I have missed, or has any other comments on how it might be improved, please let me know.

Thank you. This is a fantastic piece of work. Long may it live!

BTW, current vanilla starting screen doesn't mention Andrew or anybody else for that matter after Robert. Robert is mentioned as 2.9.0-3.0.6, but after that nothing.

Is this intentional, or is it just something that has been forgotten?

The Angband Variant Repository now has a fancy new front page.

So far, I have uploaded everything I have of all the variants which are branched from by some other variant. Please let me know if you find any faults, can fill any of my gaps, the new page makes your eyes bleed, etc. There are still many miles to go.

It looks very friendly. I love the color choices.

Could you add a link back to the main page to the most recent source download pages?

Done - I sometimes forget that not everyone obsessively uses the back button.

The colour and most of the style is a standard Github pages template - I just tweaked it a bit (mainly to include more @s).
