Good ideas and comments, all around.
I'm going to tweak the spellbooks to strengthen the fire--frost aspect.
Fire specialists will get the following elemental attack spells in books 1 and 3, in this order:
Fire Bolt
Lightning Bolt
Acid Bolt (much later, with a big fail rate at first)
Radiate Heat (fireball centered on the player, does not damage player)
Fire Ball (damages player, don't target too close!)
Lightning Trap (booby trap a door to explode when someone opens it)
Lightning Ball (damages player)
For frost specialists, the elemental forces are in reversed order:
Frost Bolt
Acid Bolt
Lightning Bolt
Radiate Ice
Frost Ball
Acid Trap
Acid Ball
Magic Missile spell is removed. There will be some monsters that are problematic for mages, but they will be different monsters for fire or frost mages. Likewise, monsters with elemental vulnerability will be super-easy for some mages, difficult for others. This should enhance replayability and flavour.
I'll probably eventually remove some elemental resistances from monsters. I don't like monsters that resist all basic elements. There should only a couple of them in the game.
I'll try to make sure that there are some non-combat methods for killing resistant monsters for mages and mystics.
I don't have many excuses left for not releasing the first version with the name Halls of Mist... But it will be released when it's "ready".Comment
