Post spamming FTW.... We need to get other people into this thread so I stop dominating it. :P

An interesting edge case came up today. My priest/thrower, wielding a blessed axe (and an obligatory missile weapon ), test-dual-wielded a sword of slay evil in the shield slot. He didn't get a "weapon of impiety" message, fail rates didn't rise, etc. After playing around for a bit I reached the conclusion that the blessed weapon sanctified the unblessed one. This worked regardless of which slot had the blessed weapon.

OK? Horrible horrible? All the same to me, but I'm not sure if this is intended... for values of intention equalling "meeting the current maintainer's intention, even though he didn't program this behavior."
So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

Maybe I should have put my proposal regarding shapechanging here, instead of in my thread in AAR, I don't know if it has been missed or people just don't think it's a good idea...

I had nothing interesting to say about it, camlost is, I have a hunch, getting flooded with IRL, and other people are too busy with the 1001 'bands - including the granddaddy itself - that are also in furiously active development at the moment. That's my guess.

Not flooded, just not coding a lot right now. More of a modest burnout on angband dev. But I am full-time employed now.

I think at some point recently, I noticed that the code only checked the primary weapon status, and a real fix was ugly, so I decided to check either for blessed status. I'll open a ticket to track the issue.

I wouldn't object if there were a thread dedicated to shapechanging in S. That's the part of the game I feel needs the most balance consideration at the moment. Perhaps I could dump some technical data into the thread to demystify what's going on.

I'm still coding (albeit slowly) while I'm working full time, with a 3 and a half hour daily commute and raising twins.

You can make the time if you need to.

Calculation of quest depth seems to still be not working quite right...

I assume it it intended that quests be more spaced out than in earlier versions, and this seems to be the case initially, with quests coming about every 10 levels.

But as I approach level 40, they seem to be squeezed closer together and i am now getting a quest every 3-4 levels.

I'll report again after I finish the next quest, then after that i might start diving down 6-8 levels before requesting another quest.

A long commute makes it easier for me to do non-work-related projects. I always carry my netbook on the bus. Unfortunately, after a day of working on code at work I am less willing to work on code on the bus...

Oh, I certainly can make time, I'm just choosing to idle on the project for a while and create some mental momentum, and spend some time planning what exactly I want to do.

                    Congrats on the twins!

Incidentally, congrats on the new job, camlost! I was never quite comfortable with the fact that our gain was your loss.

Some May Not Care But Throwers Despair...

You throw a Slimy Mushroom of Disease (g) (none left).
                        The Sky drake breathes sound.
You throw a Metallic Purple Potion of Cure Critical Wounds (g) (22 left).
The Metallic Purple Potion of Cure Critical Wounds shatters!

"Why is that silly Bostock throwing his CCWs at that Sky Drake?" you may ask. Well, when twiddling an @-numbered item via the "n" key, when there are no longer any stacks with stock of that @-number, the game twiddles the next item by letter rather than either twiddling the samely-numbered item in the quiver or refusing to do anything. (Either would be OK.)

And here's a perhaps debatable... bug?

When quickstarting a character, the game goes by your previous character's race at death rather than their race at birth. So if your hill orc was permapolymorphed into a dwarf, quickstart generates a dwarf. (I didn't stick around to check how that affected the process of stat determination incl. specification of minimal stats.)

Not sure if this is a bug or intended, but sharpshooters (and presumably other archer-type monsters) can shoot at you with full effectiveness when confused.

They also seem to be untroubled by even high level of invisibility, though this is probably a separate issue (that ranged attackers always seem to know where to cast/shoot their attacks against an invisible player, while melee attackers will often move around randomly.)

My Priest cast Resist Ethereal and did not get light and darkness resistance indicators in the @ column. He did however gain (at least) rLight. He also did gain the oppElec indicator for @.

The indicator is a yellow L, even though you get rLight and rDark. I'll put the info on the char screen. Can you double chekc the oppElec? This doesn't look likely.
