    Is this really intended?

Well, I realize it may not have been you who made it that way. So I guess the real question is, is it a good idea?

I guess my vote is "no" - it just feels too weird to me. The boost for the player is marginal, anyway, so I don't even have *that* reason to keep a poker face.

So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

There is no real indication one way or the other. I had certainly assumed it would reveal charges of "known" types only, but I've never thought about it much. Usually by then I have convenient enough sources of ID, and I learn charges more often than not anyway. The code doesn't provide any hints either. I usually use-test magic devices for the experience.

Also, I doubt there's a provision for displaying charges without displaying the object type.

I was thinking more along the lines of just refusing to show charges in that case.

Loading traps - an interface request

Could the trap-loading interface be made to respect @d#, so that e.g. I could use d1 to load a weapon marked @d1 into a trap?

It's not much of a bug for now as I don't yet have repro steps, but just now I "managed" to get the game to CAUSE MY WEAPON TO DE-EXIST. AAAARGH. I mean OK it's hardly an uberweapon - just a nicely enchanted cutlass - but it was the best I got!

            Anyway.

It happened during the technicalities of 2-weaponing. 1.03 b2. Here's the log from around that time:

            You see a Long Sword (2d5) {unknown}.
This weapon is too heavy to wield with either of your existing weapons.
            Replace them both? y
            You were wielding a Rapier (1d6) (+5,+5) (x).
            You were wielding a Cutlass (1d8) (+6,+3) {Mughâsh} (`). <-- Never trust the "`" slot, that's what I always say.
            You are wielding a Long Sword (2d5) {unknown} (a).
            Attacking monsters with: a Long Sword (2d5) (+0,+0) (a).
            Your pack overflows!
            You drop a Rapier (1d6) (+5,+5) (x).
You have no more Rapiers (1d6) (+5,+5) (x).
            You were wielding a Long Sword (2d5) (+0,+0) (x).
            You are wielding a Rapier (1d6) (+5,+5) (a).
            Your pack overflows!
            You drop a Long Sword (2d5) (+0,+0) (x).
You have no more Long Swords (2d5) (+0,+0) (x).
            Cancelled. <4x>
            You see a Long Sword (2d5) (+0,+0).
Cancelled. <-- Symptom of me massively WTFing

Are the new warrior talents only meant to be for OoI characters? I've found that a mage with karate can use Circle Kick.

Minor enough that I haven't reported til now despite this being ancient, but mildly annoying: sometimes the Afraid indicator trumps the Heroic indicator even in situations where heroism is trumping the fear.

                Feature request: temp-telepathy indicator.

Some are, some aren't. Circle kick, impact blow, and whirlwind attack are available to all, though some have weapon restrictions.

Yeah, if you're not wielding any ammunition and replace two weapons with one, the game deletes a weapon. Do not trust slot '`'.

Tongue-in-cheek feature request: anti-virus-style warning siren (even if playing without sound) and windows error message (especially if not playing in Windows) when player tries to take on Azriel with a necro.

"Warning: you are about to seriously kill yourself in a facepalming manner. Are you stupid enough to continue?"

Unless the way I work around graphics wonkiness caused by shifts among computers* is at fault, it seems that either the Shift-V version indicator works incorrectly, or this thread's link to the Windows b3 has been wrong all along and I have somehow managed to not notice. Shift-V gives the version as 1.02 b1.

I noticed and started exploring this because I was occasionally getting wallhacked by ballspells and lightning strikes towards the endgame of that Azriel'd necro.

Occam would say the indicator is wrong and there are either still some minor bugs in targeting through walls or I was hallucinating (50/50). I'd agree with Occam.

EDIT: My, that was confusing. Hopefully you can understand my point, roughly that the "V"-ersion number might be wrong, or if it's not wrong, the Windows link might be wrong, or there might be a lingering, erratic bug with monsters still targetting through walls. Version number being wrong sounds piddling, but I think you can agree here that I'd be writing this message less confusingly if it read 1.02b3!

The unique angels are a tough fight for anyone, never mind a necro. I put them just behind the two Qs on the 'not worth trying to kill' list, though if Morgoth summons them, you'll probably wish you had dealt with them earlier.

Re the version number thing: I noticed that my latest character dump gave the version as 1.02b1, even though I updated to b3. I assumed this was because I started that character off in b1.

Haven't noticed any monsters casting through walls since I upgraded though..

Emperor Q and... what's the other one?

As always, everything is situational... and Forbid Summoning is quite the situation. Too bad there's no Forbid Mindblasting to Slow Me Down Followed by a Doublemove Used for Two Necroamplified Undodged Holy Lances.

Anyway, you're right, of course. Fighting rather than avoiding (and with a burglar no less, though that counts for less than it should) is a bad habit left over from permalevel roguelikes that I still haven't been able to shake. My excuse was, "But - Morgoth!!!", but ultimately between Destroy Cavern, Mass Genocide, and Teleport Other, it's a poor excuse for a necro.

I expect that the version number has not been updated. What targeting wonkiness have you been seeing?

Monsters can target around walls, but hopefully not through them.

It was through, and it was rare, and only late. Next time I'll just make a save and send it, with something as apparently obscure as what was happening here, it's the only way.

I'm getting b1 for the saved character sheets as NotMorgoth did, and I'm pretty sure there's no b1 taint in my characters... looks like unupdated v-number indeed.

Perhaps "y" could be used for "unchange" instead of "u"? It would:
                                - be consistent with the unchange key offered to non-shapechangers
                                - be more convenient for numpad players
                                - be consistent with the historical key.
