ALSA suggests that this is a problem with sound. Does turning off sound/music fix the problem?

Can I have a copy of the savefile? middendorfproject@gmail.com

I forgott to say, this was with sound and music disabled in the config file.
I sent you the save file, if my email is marked as spoofed is because i am spoofing it myself.
          Thank you.

I've been away from SAngband for a while, but got the itch. Frustratingly, I can't get it to work. I've tried a couple of different compiles and I always get the same result: the screen just goes blank and then I get a message that sangband.exe is not responding. I'm running on Vista Home Premium, sad to say, and am not a tech wiz. I've been through the thread looking for others with the problem and haven't found anything. Any hints?

Are you downloading the executable? Are you compiling from source? Both?

Have you tried setting the download to a compatibility mode? I think that helped someone, though not with this problem.

I'm downloading the zipped executable & files) It unzips fine, so I don't think the executable is corrupted (it's 1,639k, if that can tell you anything).

Oh, and I've had the same thing happen with the unofficial 100 bugfix as well; it unpacks fine, but freezes before it even creates the .info files.

I'm running 32 Windows Home Vista and am able to download and play sangband_windows_1.0.1.169.zip just fine. Sorry, that doesn't help at all, except to know that it does work for some people. I did nothing with compatibility.

I'm guessing here, but maybe there is some graphics related issue. By default, it comes up full screen, and uses some really small fonts. Like, around a 3pt font or something (about 20 characters per inch). Screen going blank is suggestive. The other nice thing to know is: Is your CPU spiked?

I'm also OK on 64-bit Windows 7 with no compatibility options required.

                      Sorry I can't reproduce

Yeah, I was thinking it was probably a graphics issue of some sort. As to your last question, um. I don't know what that means.

Well, its not that important. I'd wait for Camlost to help you out here ... I haven't really played Sangband, and I tried (but not too hard) to figure out how to setup preferences. Maybe he could help you just getting up a small terminal with just the dungeon view, like in regular Vanilla. That would be the first thing I would try ...

If you're using Build 129 then it still uses synchronous SendMessage for font changes. You could try rebooting or for me killing hung iexplore processes.

I have rebooted, and there are no hung iexplore processes.

If you're using 129 try using 169. That will at least eliminate the SendMessage bug. You can get it from http://code.google.com/p/skills-angband/
