I think he means loss to fire or acid attacks, blunting some of the damage taken by @.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

I thought each item has independent chance of being destroyed by elements so the above trick should mean a difference.
But someone knowing the code itself could verify this.

That's correct, every carried item is checked for possible damage/destruction - so the more you carry, the more you have to lose

Is cold damaged reduced by exploding potions? I've heard this happens with acid-splashed armor.

No, that only happens with worn armor, and only for acid. In this case a random armor slot is picked (body armor, boots, etc), and if the player is wearing an item there with a positive armor class, damage is halved and the item is damaged (unless it ignores acid).

Well, those arrows would give an item-stealing monster something else to take besides the useful staff, wand, or rod you have stashed away.

So, if you get hit with frost damage, say, EVERY potion is checked for possible destruction?

So if I have 40 CLW, 40 CSW, 40 CCW, then there's 120 "blown up by frost" rolls?

No, every slot is checked - so your stack of CLW would be checked, and then 1 or more destroyed if it failed the roll.
