    Throwing Weapons

I have some concerns over throwing weapons. I like the idea of them, but I find the current implementation rather flawed. For example since they invariably require the investment of inventory slots they don't do nearly enough damage to warrant their use except in extreme circumstances. Good throwing weapons currently do a moderate amount of damage, but considering that they take up unique inventory slots, and render the weapon itself vulnerable to a variety of breath based destruction on the floor once thrown, they appear quite lackluster in my opinion.

What exactly are the plans for throwing weapons? Are others satisfied with them as they currently are?

    Good points there.

Personally I'd need a throwing quiver or throwing weapon to have a low-failure-rate chance to return to your hand. Inventory slots are just too valuable for throwing weapons. Even with the damage they do atm.

I am sure a quiver solution would be great, but I can pretty much guess that is undesirable from a dev standpoint. Having throwing weapons that return after being thrown is interesting.

On my end an idea I have been kinda noodling over since I made the thread has been for bladed throwing weapons to be placed into the target's inventory and hit them with slowing for a number of turns (simulating the weapon with its weight being put into their flesh, especially relevant for a thrown spear.) A blunt throwing weapon would instead hit with temporary stunning. This still wouldn't be strong enough to offset the downsides of throwing weapons as they currently are, but it would help.

In O and original FA they could go in the quiver (taking the same space as 5 pieces of ammo); that's not in V yet because I haven't got around to it.

In my current game I found all the 'thanc' daggers before cl20 with my hobbit rogue. I noticed that they were doing about 70 in melee but could do 130 if I threw them. I'm not sure how it worked, but it did.

So I was wielding Orcist and throwing my daggers, kiting uniques.

It's the only time in Angband I've ever thrown a weapon. I'm going to explore it more.
