Ran into a room of eyeballs, including a tough one or two. After, nearly all my staves had no charges. Besides all the stuff they destroyed. Ugh.

Sell/give them to a shopkeeper and buy it back if it is useful. Preferably don't sell potions found on a floor with high treasure feeling. You cannot afford to buy back Augmentation or Experience early in the game. Monster dropped potions are a bit risky to sell too.
About acquirement: it gives level-dependent good-quality item, so never read it in Town.Comment

Anyways. At level 30 warrior gets an innate protection from fear, but that's about it.Comment

Now
(unless you but it in a shop - then read a Recall scroll - and then immediately read it when you get to the bottom).
Angband is about figuring out what to not fight as well as what to fight. Most e's just are not worth it
Most wands - not worth it for a fighter - TO and slow maybe stun - confuse never works well for me.
staves - detect evil, teleport, mapping, Det Invis (if you don't have see invis)
rods - mapping, detection, light, illumination, TO, slow <- this is where you want to me
Early, I like to wear a Open Wounds and carry a Dig (now I'm just wearing both) until damage comes along.
btw - blackguards who find rings of the mouse (0, -5) (+4) are usually very happy with them for the stealth/number of blows combo.Comment

also, a piece of advice. Your ranger can cast Magic Missile. This is VERY useful.
press = and select keymaps. select create a keymap.
press F1
type paa'$ and press enter
select save keymap
now every time you press F1, you will cast MM at the nearest mob. Slime pits, Death molds, Eyes, all things that will not attack you directly (even Druji if you know how to approach them) can be killed with MM and patience. Not only it's super useful, but it saves you precious arrows; you break 1 out of every 4 arrows you shoot, so if you shoot 40 arrows, bam! that's 10 arrows gone.
where do we find these imaginary rings of the mouse with +4 DEX and -5 damage? DL75?
try -10 (+1), which is what you find normally before damage rings start to drop."i can take this dracolich"Comment

What I'm wondering is, should I read it or save it for deep levels?Comment

It seemed to just say he had prot from fear without mention of level 30.Comment

Darn, I just dropped a stun thinking it is probably unreliable.Comment

OK, I just read the acquirement, dlvl 33. Looks good!
Lotharang, Battle Axe (14,13) >+3? ??
Similar base damage to current weapon, dagger Nimthanc (10,12), but activation cures blind/confusion every 5-7 turns.
Dagger does 200 to non-cold monsters, Ax 200 to Orcs, dagger better on that.
The dagger says it freezes monsters when I hit them, but I'm not sure what that means. It's not as if they stop attacking.
Update: after identifying runes and learning attack speed, now the base damage on the axe is 203, orcs/trolls 288.Last edited by Petoften; June 28, 2020, 18:56.Comment

Then again, there is no correct answer to this question. At least I don't have it. It's pretty much same deal as "should I save those early uniques to be killed later in hopes of better death drops". Level 30 tends to be a lot better place to kill orc uniques than level 20, but the possibility of an instant upgrade is always tempting.Comment
