You'll lose that character soon enough, somewhere between DL 35 and dl 45 or so. Next time, try spending less time before DL 30 (and before DL 40.)
I actually recommend making a backup when you get to DL 40, then playing that character until you can get to DL 70 somewhat reliably. That is the hardest part of the game to learn, and you will learn faster if you aren't spending so much time just getting there.
    Is that save-scumming though?

I don't think backup copies are the intent?

OK, made it to l30... right away, more ranged mobs, first mob destroyed a ring...

Some more loot I'd like from the fight though... I have a nice sling but a [15,13] bow dropped...

Some Iron boots of speed (4,+11) [+3]

No idea what a robe of Elvenkind is, but doesn't sound good for a troll warrior.

OOOOHhhh the phial of galadriel! I assume I drop the everburning lamp now.

New hardest fight so far on level 29 - 2 uniques, one was 'Azog King of the Huru-Kai'... more hard hitting high HP.

Had to take turns drinking cure critical wounds and attacking, after using the dragonbreath...

Things like the rod of mapping and rod of treasure finding don't seem to cover the whole level.

I don't think that Petoften is paying attention to this part of the advice, though.
I am, in moderation - I'm going down without clearing levels totally, but gradually, one bad mob can end a run

Found a scroll of teleportation. No room for it, though it'd be handy since my staff of teleportation might not work.

A quick note on that topic: the stat potions have been rejiggered a bit, but so has the monster list. Things should be a bit more smoothed out and there's less of an incentive to hang around waiting for max stats, compared to back in the early 3.x days.

Use both damage rings. The rings of ice are superfluous with that much raw damage. You can keep them as a swap if you want, but I wouldn't bother.

You are massively overpowered for your current dungeon level, which is why it seems so hard to optimize. Later on, the best choice will become more obvious for the ring slot (like resist poison if you don't have it from elsewhere, or Dexterity for more blows with a heavier weapon, or CON if you are short on HP.)
