Well pseudo dragon aggroed, killed it.
Not using a ring of 14 accuracy, should I? Is a wand of wonder worth keeping? I tossed a wand of magic missile.Leave a comment:

Pseudodragon is harmless if you have some CLW. ALWAYS pick damage over accuracy on your bow (or sling.) 35 dam/turn is just fine for a bow at DL 20 or 30.Leave a comment:

C for character screen; f for file dump from there. It ends up in <angband>/lib/user by default. (The path will show up before the dump is done.)
With FA and SI*, you need to go deeper. With FA and a staff of teleportation, there is very little that can kill you before DL 35, when Gravity hounds and dreads become common. And at DL 40 the game changes, and all the habits you learn clearing DL 20 need to be unlearned.
Do post that dump (use the ladder tab above, and link from this thread.)
* free action and see invisible, the two 'must have' attributes; the depth where they become necessary increases with experience playing.Leave a comment:

Hm, I can pick between a sling with bonus 10,15 or 15,10 (strength or accuracy).
Found a pseudo dragon, that sounds dangerous...Leave a comment:

No point to a staff of cure light wounds right, since I can use potions..
Darn full inventory.Leave a comment:

How do you get a character dump again?
Currently clvl 20. I just found a ring of free action.
He's still killing stuff pretty easily - my concern is running into something different than normal that can either disable him and escape or hit very hard.
Found my first mushroom - think I'll ignore them as more dangerous than useful. Had a question and forgot what it was by the time I posted.Leave a comment:

That is seriously dangerous. What is your character level?
For rogue, early strategy is:
1. Get reliable detect monster so that you can avoid dangerous monsters.
2. Get reliable detect objects so you can find good loot.
Once you have established (1), the way to get to is go immediately to DL 20+ where you can level up fast. Around CL 18, the game starts changing: you can cast both spells reliably, so you can hunt systematically for valuable targets, both objects and monsters. Jumping around randomly isn't really the way to do it.
It'd help if you posted your current character.
Do you have free action? Then you can go to dl 30.
See invisible? Then you can go to do 35
Resist fire/elec/cold/acid (aka rbase?) Then you can go to DL 40.
If course these are all approximate. If you already know the monsters, you can go faster than this, since it's then possible to avoid those that can kill you in a single turn.
After dl 40, it gets harder. For one thing, there are a number of monsters that can kill you in a single turn--even if you have the right resistance. For another, everything is faster than you are, unless you get lucky with speed items.

Right now I'm running around with a curse necklace that teleports a lot. Sort of helps me explore.Leave a comment:

@Petofen--
We did warn youGenerally, wrecking all your gear is not worth a couple character levels. But clearing a jelly pit is something most everyone tries once. There are far more profitable ways to level up.

Went ahead and cleared the room. They didn't do much damage, but damaged equipment. A few items but nothing very useful. Think I leveled twiceLeave a comment:

Whatever you do, don't melee molds and jellies until you're sufficiently familiar with them to know exactly which ones are okay to melee.Leave a comment:

Try to limit how many monsters can see you -- don't stand directly in the doorway, try to pick off enemies with ranged attacks. Once you've killed everything you can see, try 'T'unneling out segments of wall so you can expose a small number of additional targets.
But it's really not worth it. You don't have enough ammo to kill even half the monsters with your sling, the monsters don't give great experience, and they have no drops.Leave a comment:
