If you do decide you want to look at the monster list, just press the spoilers button at the top of this page to see the monster spoiler at this site. Or you can always go into the lib/edit directory and take a look at monster.txt. (Just be aware that it is bad manners to post on the ladder if you change those .txt files).Will_Asher

Got home last night and died the first time I entered the dungeons. It was horrid. I learned three lessons though:
1.) use scrolls of phase door (teleportation if you have them) over a staff of teleportation, as the staff failed me in my moment of need, which I didn't know was possible.
2.) Warm up before diving to your normal level after returning to the game from the day before, as you will be a little rusty.
3.) Do not play your main char while you are under the influence.Comment

Remember, though, that you can use a staff (and can't read scrolls) if blinded. Eventually you'll have rBlind and won't care, but this is an important consideration early on.Comment

This time my HE-Warrior died at level 19, DL 24. I had found my first artifact as well, a pair of gauntlets [2 +15]. He was doing fine, then he was paralyzed (no ammy of free action!) and overwhelmed by hounds. It sucked watching him helplessly die, but what can you do? The warrior class is definitely more powerful (melee) than the ranger, though the ranger seemed to be better with ranged weapons, despite my warrior having better str/dex. I did miss all the spells though, specifically phase door and find monsters. Oh well, learned a lot that game as well!Comment

That's amazing. I was able to withstand the force of an ?Summon Monster'ed army (mainly hill orcs... my level: 4), killing all of them. I've been down to ~20% HP BEFORE the battle! I fought using a lousy dagger of normality.Last edited by Narvius; March 11, 2008, 16:45.If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.Comment

If you are at cl 19, dl 24, it's easy come easy go. You will make it to stat gain in very little time. It's the characters that die at cl 24, dl 19 that are so painful, both to play and to lose. Death by paralysis is painful to watch, but it's hardly something to be embarrassed about. It happens sometimes, but if you are reasonably careful, it's less effort lost compared to waiting forever at 1000' for Free Action.Comment

After a longer time I returned to Angband (I *knew* I would =D).
A few deaths and so on, and now.........
A DEFENDER LONGSWORD, YAY!
...as a mage, though.
I don't know... should I keep it, or is it too heavy for a mage?
[Edit]
And... *has* it any more hidden powers, actually?Last edited by Narvius; May 9, 2008, 16:27.If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.Comment

Of course, mages only find heavy swords... or defender maces of disruption...Comment
