I know what is in the game currently. What I meant is that mana shouldn't be visible to either party. If somebody wants to cast drain mana, so be it. Being able to tell if a character is a mana-using class makes sense, but not the amount of mana they have unless they cast Drain Mana and they get no mana (though it could have been resisted).
Determining health makes sense; you can visibly see how much damage has been done to a target, generally.A(3.1.0b) CWS "Fyren_V" NEW L:50 DL:127 A++ R+++ Sp+ w:The Great Axe of Eonwe

This is the case of monsters casting drain mana (a currently-unresistable spell) and getting no mana from the player.
Even if the spell were resistable, monsters are pretty stupid right now and there's a huge divide between what they "should" be able to do and what they actually do. Angband with truly smart monsters would be a very different game...Comment

...and you can tell how much mana they have left by how glazed their eyes are
In variants with monster mana, it is displayed, and I think that is the preferable way to do it. Some of these variants also have 'truly smart' monsters, and they are very different games. One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

You know, I think dos350 was also encouraging you to take it easy, but in a backhanded way!
When it comes to balancing real life with roguelikes, I always follow the motto "RL before RL"; this way I can rationalize whatever I feel like. Anyway, I hope you're doing better now, 3 or 4 pages later

Thank you - I am indeed feeling much better - four days of glorious sunshine, picnics and beaches. Sadly the holiday cottage has no wi-fi, so I can't do any work on the release this week ... ho hum. Hopefully there won't be too many more bugs by the weekend ...You know, I think dos350 was also encouraging you to take it easy, but in a backhanded way!

Final RC?
According to the initial plan 3.3 is due out in a week. I thought that would mean some last ditch efforts this weekend. So, Magnate, still on your well deserved vacation? Or did the dev team decide that the current RC is good enough and don't want to risk a last minute effort?Comment

I think the consensus is that there are no show-stopping bugs and we should release the current RC as 3.3 as soon as Magnate gets back.According to the initial plan 3.3 is due out in a week. (re getting the Dubtrain sounds to work)
My apologies, I may have misremembered. I swear I saw a thread in which support for that was generally admitted to be broken; but I can't find it now. So if there's a problem, I'll assume it's my own, unless others come forward. Also, I'd have replied sooner, but I've been off in Florida on business. Carry on!Can you open a bug explaining the steps you are taking to get it working in 3.1.2 that fail in 3.2?
Unless this is something major I expect it should be possible to get it working for 3.3.Comment

I have been anxiously awaiting the 3.3 release and have fought the urge to play the RCs. Today marks a month after this thread was made; any chance of a new estimate on when 3.3 will be announced?A(3.1.0b) CWS "Fyren_V" NEW L:50 DL:127 A++ R+++ Sp+ w:The Great Axe of Eonwe

Thanks for the prompt, and for your patience. 3.3 is pretty much ready: it isn't perfectly bug-free, but we think all the remaining bugs are quite hard to reproduce and/or specific to certain platforms/OSs/keyboards, so they'll just have to be fixed when they can.
Sorry for the delay: all four committers have been quite busy with RL the past couple of weeks, but normal service should be resumed shortly!"Been away so long I hardly knew the place, gee it's good to be back home" - The BeatlesComment
