    warriors immune to fear?

I just rolled up a kobold warrior on the latest nightly, and was excited to see all the changes (haven't played much since january). I was a bit disappointed though when I attacked a yellow mushroom patch and immediately was afraid, when the class description during character creation had "immune to fear" as the tag for warriors...is this merely a hint at an upcoming feature, or an omission in implementation?

Also two related thoughts - I like the numerical display of race/class benefits, but I think it'd be more helpful if, after choosing race, the class bonuses changed to reflect the choice of race. As it stands, to a new player it would possibly look as if the net effect of race+class is the same for each class, no matter which race is chosen.

On that same note - why numerical values in the race/class screen, but the old color-coded adjectives for the same attributes (good, fair, legendary, etc) in the character screen?

Warriors get pFear at level 30. In the meantime, carry !Heroism, wear a Ring of the Dog, etc.

so if the mechanic is still pFear at 30, is it not a bit misleading to state that they receive pFear as a class feature? I have been playing several years and was startled, I cannot imagine the frustration of someone new to the game/class upon seeing the same message...

The message in question is "Gains immunity to fear" which I added.

You could imagine putting the class level at which the various effects occur (e.g. Ranger's "Gains extra shots with bow"). There wasn't enough space to add these, and I figured putting something kind of ambiguous was better than putting nothing at all.

I'm with Hariolor in the details camp. "Fearless at CL30" is preferable IMO. Even if the context makes that ungrammatical.

Becomes immune to fear? Eventually gains immunity to fear?

I also vote for specifying the character level. It gives players a goal to reach after "Go to general store, don't buy lantern" and before "kill morgoth".

Also without giving the info it is rather opaque and spoiler-ish.

Just an idea, but could this not be solved better by not making rFear a binary thing, but rather granting a sort of "saving throw vs. fear" which would increase smoothly between level 0 (10%) and 30 (100%)? It would get rid of the hard breakpoint, and even make sense in terms of the character gradually becoming more "hardened" with experience.

Um, @ already gets a save vs. fear (except for melee touches).

Well, yes, but it scales with WIS (right?) which isn't exactly something warriors get a lot of.

EDIT: Nor does it make sense that they suddely (as opposed to gradually) become immune at 30.

So basically you're suggesting splitting out the different saving throws to depend on different classes/races (/stats?). E.g. warriors get a boost to fear saving throws, hobbits to life draining, priests against curses, with WIS acting as a general-purpose booster? I dunno, that seems like it could get complicated fast.

As for the breakpoint at level 30, it's not really any different than mages suddenly getting access to Haste Self or priests to Orb of Draining. Sudden game-changers are all over the place.

I'm not really suggesting anything in any serious way -- just idly speculating about ways to avoid the breakpoint. (... which was apparently causing a little trouble in terms of phrasing.)

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then why are beholders so freaking ugly?
