I am in a medium vault. If he shatters, I know that blank spaces can be replaced by rock, but can he break permanent rock?

It is done. Here is the post

While he did not shatter the permanent wall, when he hit me, it dropped wall units behind me and I had to let him rebore through the rock as he was dancing around my rune of protection. The last time I just kept putting down new runes.

Thanks to all who have helped me through this journey with suggestions, putting up with my questions, etc.

I am debating whether to go down further with him or start a new character. If new, what combo should I try next?

Well, I have started a half-Troll Paladin. I never knew you could be one. Here is his dump here

I do reserve the right to go down further with my Dwarf Priest.

IIUC, that means your priest is from a fresh savefile. If you want to build up your monster memory, you should stick to a single savefile.

Actually, the Half-Troll Paladin is a new file.

Exactly. That means you are throwing away the monster memory from the priest.

I suppose I could pull up the old character any time I need to look at something...

After this character, win or fail, I will use the same character file. But I can use a completely different name, yes?

Yes. If you want to start new char while old one is still alive, make a copy, suicide the char (that prevents it to go to scoreboard, unless you are already a winner), and start new from that suicided copy of the file.

Obviously from that point onward monster memory for these two are two different things, so if you do learn something new for one, it doesn't reflect to other. Obviously.
