I'd either have to give the title either to Brand, Mad Visionary of Amber (like Saruman x 2) or Petshop (a cold version of The Phoenix). Both are generated awake, Brand has a very powerful ball spell (darkness storm) among other nasty spells, and Petshop's frost breath will freeze your face off. These two bastards are great balancers of my tendency to duck in and out of the Dragon Caves

That's fear, not hate. I respect Tarrasque and fear meeting it before I'm ready, but I don't hate it.

Trust me, I hate the Tarrasque. It killed my first Angband character. I was just one or two more pieces of equipment away from becoming, AFAIK, the only person to get a clean, no-cheating/scumming win in Angband with thier first charcter. I figured it was nothing more than some unique lizard, nothing to be afraid of.....3-4 couple round later I was staring at a tombstone.

Nexus quylthulgs are so annoying that I go to irrational lengths to hunt them down and kill them. After that, certain zephyr hounds. In the late game Greater Balrogs. They summon greater demons, which will often be more Greater Balrogs or Horned Scythers which also summon greater demons. On top of that they're respectable combatants with a side of inventory damage.

I have a special dislike for Gravity Hounds. I agree with Netbrian that Time Hounds are actually worse (actually, lots of things are worse), but I remember losing more than one character by walking down a hallway and then suddenly and unexpectedly being slowed, teleported into a room full of a pack of them, and killed, without having a chance to react. So they have a special place in my heart. A very dark and ugly place.

Crebains. I work so hard to get somewhere, prep for the toughest fight of the game, and then they permanently haste the big foe and I have to leave.

I think temporary haste (and slow) for monsters is already in nightlies or will be shortly.

I hate Time Hounds. Cant resist their damage (which isnt small either) or their breath effects. So annoying especially since they come with like 20 of them. Lost my first successful character to them, just nearly lost my mage a second ago.

Hate, as a group: beholders. As was noted, a PITA with no reward. You have to respect drujs, so there's more fear factor. You TO a druj for survival reasons; you TO a beholder to just get the *($@ thing out of the way.

Most irritating: time and nexus vortex, nexus and master Q's.

I have to admit I kind of like drujs. They're Angband's point-defense turrets!

Had a good character going, best in a while, well for me at least. Level 32 High-Elf Mage. Going strong. Using graphics for the first time with this version instead of usual ASCII style, didn't recognize the Ethereal Dragon as a big one instead of a regular one. Breathe confusion - die. At 1750' no less. Sigh... YASD.

I hope it came from a vault (at 1750'). I've never liked the graphic for ethereal dragons/drakes although it is very distinct. Does anyone object to a simple recolor of a normal dragon/drake to ethereal blue (think hounds colors)?

i played some varient where the @ was a u and i couldnt deal with it, also the walls were like big and the floor was like a big dot, eeeeeeeee no offense to thatone

It did not come from a vault. Just sitting in a corridor and I stupidly attacked it. And this was after I intelligently avoided the AMHD (also not in vault) shortly before at 1700'. Serves me right, I guess, for hanging around that depth without poison or confusion resist.

Back to the drawing board, I guess.
