Then we can add a random chance every X turns of a divorce on the grounds that you are spending to much time away and neglecting your spouse.

Why not add her to the monster set? We already have melee effects for insult, moan, steal gold, and gaze to terrify.

Just don't hardcode her as FEMALE... I'm sure some heterosexual women play Angband, too!

Hmm, that would give the "character sex" birth option some meaning... But then we'd need one for "character sexual orientation" as well...

Food can be useful beyond satisfy hunger and have different useful abilities. Like Elven Waybread, it cures poison, gives you bigger nutrition value than food rations, is light and is not vulnerable to any element.

But because of that nutrition value you need to be careful not to get gorged. It adds to tactical decision to make.

I would vote for removal of satisfy hunger instead. That's a "press A to not die" -function.

This feels to me more like a priest spell than a mage spell. Do you prefer removing it from both classes? Would it be better just to remove it from the mage books?

I prefer removing it for everyone. I agree with Timo that food can have interesting side effects (and if my long term plans with mushrooms work out, it will).

Mushrooms do not have enough food value to matter, and priests get their curing from spells anyway. The healing potion that gorges you is not a significant concern for priests.

I don't use the spell from a book with any class, so it does not affect me personally. I'm just looking for ways to give the different realms different spells.

I agree with this as it currently stands.

I hope to increase the amount of sustenance you get from mushrooms to be nearer to slime molds/rations as well as the frequency with which you can find mushroom drops (particularly when killing mold, etc). Finally I want to make some of the worst mushrooms slightly less bad (e.g. stoneskin).

If we're going to increase the nutritional value of items that you'd be inclined to consume during/just prior to combat, then we need to change the gorging mechanic. You shouldn't be penalized for overeating, IMO. The alternative would be to try to keep your character eternally hungry just so they can avoid being slowed.

But I still think that just removing the hunger mechanic entirely is the way to go.

Both books and also scrolls. Food adds variety to game and it is a good thing. Add a bit more than just "food rations" and "Elven Waybread" to make them even more interesting. Mushrooms could have a bit higher nutrition values. Add "Cram" which is lighter than Food Rations, have higher nutrition value but doesn't cure poison like Elven Waybread. Some eatable fruits and plants. Something like that

I would like to add "diseases" in the game that can be cured only by certain food items, but lesser effect than poison or things like that. Especially "Black breath" & "Athelas" comes to mind. IIRC the very old angband had status "diseased" and many more sources to reduce stats ("disease" reduced CON IIRC). We could add some variety of diseases that affect different stats and reduce them slowly. Maybe even through sustains (which BTW are now way easier to get than in old days).

It's funny that you mentioned it... I was already thinking about adding Cram and wondering what kind of mechanic to use. Athelas is another good idea. I totally agree that food with small interesting side effects (and which has to be carried and consumed) is much better than a generic spell/scroll to just read over and over again.
