i've noticed more than once that the Q Emperor whatshisname, sometimes just stands there and gets melee'd without doing anything. Other times he''' summon like a maniac, but then again some times just gives up and waits to die. No messages from him, no "Q tries to cast a spell but fails", just stands inactive.
sometimes big Q just stands there

This is really important for someone like me who refuses LOS abuse tactics. Some times I can get the Queen Ant to summon before going after the Emperor Q in a vault. Don't kill her too early.Comment

iirc there was a bug that prevented summons on tiles containing objects so you could simply throw arrows on adjacent tiles to prevent Q from summoning then just melee them to death, don't remember if it was fixed (probably)PWMAngband variant maintainer - check https://github.com/draconisPW/PWMAngband (or http://www.mangband.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=9) to learn more about this new variant!Comment

Summoning still requires that the grid not have any objects (see square_allows_summon() in src/cave-square.c).Comment

Ignored objects would also prevent summoning to whatever grid they're on so you might toggle ignoring to see if that's the cause. In any case, if you can post a savefile where this is happening, that could help identify what's gone wrong.Comment

Normal Qs do not cast every turn, so that is expected. Master and Emperor Qs do, so there should be no missed turns, except those dictated by lower speed or lack of room.
Edit: OK, I did a rough calculation. With my current get-up I do 505 damage with Trident of Ulmo against animals (and evil with a spell.) With both blessing and heroism, I do 515. Further, against Greater Titan (picked to represent my current DL) I do 25 more damage with the buffing spells cast. That is 4.2 more damage per blow, so yes, the estimate of 50% is way off. It is closer to 25%. But that is for a Paladin. For a mage, it would be closer to +30 damage, or +8 per blow. That *is* getting close to 50%, and if for some reason I wanted to melee Morgoth, it'd be more.Last edited by Pete Mack; October 13, 2023, 22:08.Comment
