Giant race?

Some numbers for this thought experiment:
In order for my Hobbit Ranger to get from 15 STR to 18/120 STR he'll need +15 STR. I usually try to get my Hobbit Rangers to 18/200 CON and starting CON is usually 17 so that would require +21 CON. WIS starts at 16 I believe which would mean +20 WIS to reach 18/180. If I were to wear all three rings of power that would be +15 speed (all you need on the rings slots) and +6 to all stats. 2 damage rings and 5 more stat rings and you'd have a pretty overpowered @.
Starting stats for my Hobbit Rangers are:
STR: 15
INT: 12
WIS: 17
DEX: 16
CON: 17
3 standart Rings of power bring that up to:
STR: 18/30
INT: 18
WIS: 18/50
DEX: 18/40
CON: 18/50
2 STR rings and 2 CON rings brings it up to:
STR: 18/130
INT: 18
WIS: 18/50
DEX:18/40
CON: 18/150
1 more STR and 1 more CON and its a very comfortable:
18/180
18
18/50
18/40
18/200
Of course finding three +5 CON and three +5 STR rings isn't a given.Last edited by Grotug; January 22, 2022, 23:47.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

There are variants with races where you can wear I think up to 8 rings, like on an octopus or spider; the trade-off there being they can't wear most other gear. I don't know of one that made the trade-off for losing access to stat gain.Comment

Morgoth is a Giant, but my *Slay Giant* does no extra damage on him.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Maybe M needs his HP bumped to 25,000 and given the Giant flag again?Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

He really should have the giant flag IMO. Firstly, weapons of slay giant are rare, so it would make an interesting switch for the final fight. Secondly, he's massive so he's clearly a giant. Finally he is a PComment

Sounds good to me. IIRC in Frog Knows and very early versions he did have the Giant flag. I think his HP were only 17,000 though until he was boosted in V3.0.
On the subject of hitpoints, Sauron seems to have been nerfed considerably. He has less than some of the other uniques - perhaps bump him up to 12,000 or so?Comment

I'm perfectly happy with him not having the GIANT flag. Yes, he is BIG (in fact I often call him the BIG BOSS), but he is not of the Giant race. Not a drop of Giant blood in him.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Vanilla Angband's flags are no subject to change, imo. Morgoth certainly isn't a giant as a race. If anything besides 'P', he'd be an 'A'. But he certainly doesn't need _GIANT_ flag.
Only ones I could question, and that is really splitting hairs without any desire to change, are a nightcrawler being a snake instead of a worm and an etten being a troll instead of a giant.Comment
