    XP by Id has always been a very gamey mechanic, and breaks the otherwise cleaner XP by kill/XP by encounter mechanic. I'd also suggest XP by rune identification as the simplest mechanic, but I'd err on the side of ID XP being minimal. The main mechanics for XP should be fighting, or encountering new enemies.

      That's probably right for NarSil, but I think ID from sources other than fights/encounters is going to be a big thing in Beleriand.

          Have you considered that this is just the attitude that's holding you back? Winning isn't is just grabbing the nearest 2-hander or bow you know. Its serious, serious business. serious.

            Well, since it's serious business, I *actually* enjoy the ID game as Sil and Sangband have it—though, NarSil doesn't really have it anymore, since things became much easier to ID (I think consumables are automatically IDed on consume now, anyway?)
