XP by Id has always been a very gamey mechanic, and breaks the otherwise cleaner XP by kill/XP by encounter mechanic. I'd also suggest XP by rune identification as the simplest mechanic, but I'd err on the side of ID XP being minimal. The main mechanics for XP should be fighting, or encountering new enemies.

Well, since it's serious business, I *actually* enjoy the ID game as Sil and Sangband have it—though, NarSil doesn't really have it anymore, since things became much easier to ID (I think consumables are automatically IDed on consume now, anyway?)Last edited by MITZE; December 18, 2024, 23:50.Everything you need to know about my roguelike playstyle:
