That's it. Of course, I don't think diving in right away is the best option. Probably, you will want to complete a few quests first, especially to gain Shiva's Boots. But getting powerful enough to do the Cloning Pits without entering any dungeon seems difficult ...

I breezed down the pits of Angband until I hit the Santa Claus quest, which was only mildly challenging. Hastur the Unspeakable was a completely different matter, requiring about 20 !oHealing to kill. At that point I realized that I am just a whimpy CL34 melee mage, scratching out 150hp/damage a round or so, and had better take it slow.

Now I'm a bit frustrated, and may put this guy on hold a while. My first sighting of Madame Debby moronified me. I mean, I knew it was coming sooner or later, but I was hoping for later ... much later. Bam, my fail rate on Herbal Healing shot back up to 40%. I killed her, even without resist confusion which she kept insisting on breathing. I'm gobbling my !oHealing, but I figure at high level, I'll have a 0% fail rate herbal healing (even if my Int stays at 18/150).

So, I'm taking a break from this guy. The challenges will be:
[1] Teleport. I haven't seen a single scroll yet in the dungeon, so I need to hoard what I've got.
[2] Equipment. I still have some gaping holes, most notably Resist Confusion. It'll be hard to juggle my equipment without a home to store stuff in.
[3] Encumbrance. I'm running with a -2 speed penalty. And its not like I have a free ring slot for a ring of speed, unless I give up my +20 damage ring, which means I go from piss poor at melee to completely ineffectual. Illustration: Right now, with 302hp/round melee it takes 50 rounds of melee to kill a great venom wyrm (probably because my accuracy is down around 40%). And that's with Boromir for that extra +8 damage kicker. Give up my ring, and boromir, and I'm doing 162 hp/round, times 40% accuracy for maybe 70hp/round. That's not goin' to get it done ;P
