Decent start, though armor slots leave something to be desired. Got the ego xbow early, which really helps. Just found the poor man's speed ring, been using the homeless man's speed ring (teleport) before but find it aggravating.

Did a happy dance when I got Colluin, with a decent sense of deja vu from the last Elen. Though got only one =oEscaping, not the two that I had last time (keeping an eye out for a matching one).

During the most recent recall, I was parked four squares from Phoenix. Couldn't teleport fast enough.

And when life throws you bolts of slay animal, make mumakade as Mama Elen would say. I feel a recipe coming on...

Kobold Mumak Salad
1/100 mumak breast (about 2 lb)
2 cups mumak stock
1/2 lb green beans
1/2 lb artichoke hearts
handful of cherry tomatoes
4 oz feta cheese
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/2 cup black olives
12 oz salad greens

1 preserved slime mold
3 garlic cloves
1 tsp chili paste
1 cup slime mold juice
2 tbsp roasted red pepper
dill, cinnamon, cumin, and red fire ant to taste
2 cups olive oil

Poach mumak in stock. Boil beans, artichoke hearts. Toast pine nuts.

Puree roasted red pepper and slime mold, and whisk together dressing ingredients. Make runt kid brother taste. Add olive oil and whisk well. Add seasonings and honey to taste.

Use just enough dressing to moisten the chicken, and refrigerate overnight. Repeat process with green beans and artichoke hearts.

Next day, mix salad ingredients and garnish with runt brother.

So, the RNG says, "No !oCon for you!". However, it is not totally merciless, and gave me a speed ring ahead of schedule. Sadly, it is not that merciful as it is a +2. Beggers can't be choosers I suppose. Plus, with all the Dex potions, a fine selection of artifact weaponry, and no premium launchers yet, it is time to get up close and personal with the usual draconic, mid-major demons, and other riff-raff.

I won't go into the culinary delights of sorcerors again, but let's just say that Elen had Saruman over for dinner. He's just so over eager, that I felt like I had to deal with him. At the time, only had +9 speed, which made it more exciting.

Found a +11 =oSpd and found speed boots in store. I had to take a whole bunch of money-raising trips, so burned out all the ?oRecall. Figure I'll have to find one in the dungeon.

And wahoo speed. A bit way too late to make land speed records, but there you go. Honestly, evariste is just a better man than I, but still hope to win by 250000.

That, of course would require more !oCON. Say, more than the zero I've currently found...

On 23.1.2009 18:46 evariste wrote:
Wow, how much did the speed boots cost? At one point during my recent win I had to wait a few trips to accumulate enough money to buy a !Augmentation from the black market (I think the price was close to 200k), but I imagine the speed boots probably cost much more...

This game still looks very quick... I was just somewhat luckier than you in a few respects:
(a) I didn't have your problems with !CON.
(b) I found two Rings of Escaping by 2250', whereas I believe you only found one before it was too late to matter?
(c) The black market sold me two Rods of Teleport Other fairly early (and I never found more), and they were invaluable for diving. I've found that wands run out of charges too quickly without being supplemented by rods...

Well, did a stupid thing-- managed to get all of my first spellbooks burned. Thought, no problem (think Fozzie Bear's voice), and turns out that there are none in the magic store. And I've sold many many copies of the high level books, so buying out the magic store is not really feasible right now.

Sigh. On the bright side, my kit is shaping up pretty well. Should probably smack Sauron soon.

Evariste--
I still think that these comps have shown that you are just better than me, but it is true that your last game gave you pretty good stuff early. My first character had something like that, with two rings of escape very early compensating for my general dalliance (I didn't play as tight as I was experimenting).

Real life intervened for a while, but finally got some alone time with Sauron. Sadly, all he left was a xbow of accuracy. Not even a heavy xbow,*sniff*.

And took Huan down. In case you ever take down a unique C, here is some Mama Elen advice:

As any kobold will tell you, hound (to be distinguished from dog) has an excellent, savory flavor especially suitable for stews:

Ingredients:

* 3 tablespoons olive oil
* 4 medium leeks, sliced thinly
* 1 stalk celery, minced
* 3 fresh or dried and rehydrated mushrooms of restore constitution
* 4 large cloves garlic, minced
* 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, minced
* 1 tablespoon fresh marjoram, minced
* pepper to taste (For Huan, use lots, for Carcharoth, none is needed)
* 1 pound boneless cubed Hound shoulder
* 1/4 cup flour
* 1 quart mushroombroth
* 1 quart Hound stock
*flask of wine
* 3/4 pound potatoes
* 3 medium turnips
* 3 large carrots, peeled and cut on the bias into 1/4″ slices
* roux made from 4 tablespoons butter and 4 tablespoons flour, cooked to a medium brown color

Method:

Heat oil in the bottom of an eight to twelve quart pressure cooker over medium heat. Add leeks, celery, mushrooms and garlic and saute until leeks begin to take on color. Add the spices and salt and continue cooking for about three minutes.

Toss Hound with flour and add to pressure cooker and brown on all sides. When meat is thorougly browned, deglaze the bottom of the pot with Hound broth, scraping up all the browned bits. Add rest of broth and wine, and bring to a boil.

Put lid on cooker, bring to full pressure, turn down heat to low and cook for forty-five minutes. Quick release pressure and open lid; the meat should be fork-tender.

Add potatoes into the pot, bring liquid to a boil, put the lid on, lock it and bring to full pressure. Cook for seven minutes, quick release pressure, remove lid and bring to a boil.

Add remaining vegetables, lock on lid, bring to full pressure and cook for two minutes. Quick release pressure and remove lid.

All vegetables and meat should be fork tender.

To thicken the stew, bring the broth to a boil in pressure cooker, with the lid off. Bring the roux to bubbling. Pour the bubbling hot roux into the stew, and stir like mad. The broth will thicken as it boils in about three minutes.

Was going to melee Morgoth, but got three stacks of Slay Evil ammo. I actually forgot how forgiving it was to shoot using such ammo. Certainly Umbar didn't hurt (except for Morgoth).

And so, one final receipe:

God Pie (an alteration of a Kobold favorite, Shepherds pie, but without the Shepherds)

2 lb potatoes
1 head garlic
5 tbsp butter
2 tsp chives
8 oz chevre

1 large onion
1 sweet red bell pepper
1/2 cup Carcharoth essense
1 flask of ale
2 cups corn
2 cups beans
cumin, paprika, corriander
1 lb very lean ground god (grassfed has great flavor)
1 cup salsa (I used red dragon for extra spiciness)
1 cup kale
Lots o' cheese

First make Chipotle Mashed potatoes:
Boil potatoes. Mash potatoes with garlic, butter, chives, and chevre. Set aside

Stir-fry onions to a light gold color. Add peppers, and some garlic, until onions are medium brown. Deglaze with 1/4 flask of ale.

After alcohol has boiled away, add corn and beans. Cook until corn is darkish yellow. Add spices and god, spreading it through vegetable mixture, then deglaze with red of flask. Work hard to scrape bottom and sides of pan-- the god flavors are stuck there and will be extra delicious if mixed into everything.

The meat will turn purplish and red-- keep stirring and cooking. Stir in salsa and other slices. Put mixture in pie pans and top with potatoes. Top with cheese.

Invite whole clan for extended grovelling to the cook. Backstab any ingrates, repeat as necessary.
