I think in general the priest class is way underpowered. For one thing if you are not a templar you can only use blessed weapons or bless yourself in order to avoid a penalty. As the spell failure goes up if you're using a non-blessed weapon you basically have to remove the weapon, bless yourself and then wield it which is quite annoying. Secondly, I find the priest spell much weaker than the mage's. I think one way to improve this is to have a store service or a spell that would allow to bless any weapon (including ego weapons and maybe even artifacts). Also, I would like to see a greater selection of priest damaging spells and a spell that's similar to the mage's concentration spell.
I've also tried playing different types of thief and Artisan. As for the artisan, the documentation states that he is the best user of devices but looking at the stats the mage is better, and some of the other classes appear to be equal. Another problem I had was playing a gifted thief. While I did gain mana to cast spells, and could browse the appropriate books, I couldn't learn any spells.
I also tried to play a ring-user. The documentation promises that you would be able to wield three rings at a time but I found I could still wield only two.

And it was certainly my impression that the priest class in Angband was one of the easiest classes. And I've only improved the spell selection compared to Angband (made Sanctuary actually useful; combined Remove Fear and Slow Poison etc). Is it just because the mage class is that much better than Angband that you're making the comparison? Or does separating out the spell stats change things significantly? Or is the game just harder?

Will look at the other bugs you've reported.

As for your questions about the priest I think it's a combination of the factors. Unangband is definitely more difficult than vanilla and the mage class is definitely stronger than it is in vanilla (mostly at higher levels). The priest class does not have good damaging spells. The dispel spells are pretty good but they are costly mana-wise, and have high fail rates. The priest, therefore, has to rely on melee, which he's not great in, and is limited in his weapon selection. The priest spells added in the latest version go a long way to correcting this problem. I think you could complement them by adding:
1. A spell similar to the mage's concentration (you can call it meditation or prayer).
2. A low level summoning spell - perhaps summoning friendly spirits.
3. A possible solution to the problem with non-blessed weapons would be allowing to cast bless-like spells with the normal failure rate even when wielding non-blessed weapons. This would allow you to use the weapon without having to unwield it first.
