Maaan high-elves are tedious at the start -- of course they also end up very powerful. AFAICT you basically have to stair-scum until you get a lucky find to get the cash flow going. Or have I missed some other less tedious way to get started?

At your AC and HP, seeker bolts are fatal. Stay far, far away from Hardened warriors. With a rangers detect life spell, it is not so hard to get from SV28 to SV26 and then as an Elven ranger you get the +3 speed boost which makes getting down to Ephel Brandir a lot easier. Personally I'd head to SV30 first and hope for a bit of luck though.
