Running a build suggested by someone on the furyband forums -- the Hydra-hybrid/phase-warrior is doing impressively well so far.

Greatest thing I've done to date was cleaning out a P vault on the upper levels of Angband around Clvl 32... and then fleeing for the surface in the face of byakee, heh.

Current plan is to empty Barador (spelling?) of quests and then run around hitting the side dungeons before taking the Necromancer out - if things continue as smoothly as they have, I might actually have some small chance of pulling it off, a first (legitimately, at least), for me in any ToME variant/improvement.

Anyone happen to have some helpful tips they'd be willing to offer?

Whoo! Slept, woke up, fired up fury and a few levels lower in Barad-dur, the lovely princess gifts me with a chargeable cloak. I'm now over a million gold poorer, and the rather happy owner of the four basic immunities and resistances to everything else. Luck~

Just to state, the phase warrior class is simply amazing. Clvl 37, the lovely RNG drops me into more or less in the middle of a large, open, room with 12 of 17 13-headed hydras, a canine Q, and some random chaff. A few minutes, a little bit of panicking , and over 30 various dead hydras later, I've gained a level and somewhere around a hundred tiles have been filled with $. Beautiful.

I actually suggest you go deeper for better items.

I would have kept that Uvatha the Horseman RoP. It had no real negative to it and it's much better than several of your rings right now.

You should set your Explor mode to Running. I would set Tactic to either Coward or Berserker.

Have you tried the Panic Hit ability yet? It can be used by typing a capital U and looking in the menu for Panic hit. This can sometimes get you past troublesome enemies.

****I just noticed that you are not level 37 in this dump. Could we get a peek at the new dump?****

I also noticed that you have small levels turned to always. Is this more fun or faster? I think that may make Void and Nether inaccessible by means of the delay to generate a level that is both small and contains a boatload of dragons and high undead.

You can post the new dump right over the old one.
Anyway. I hope you enjoy it and tell us all about it.

Weelp, bad news is, a short time after this taking this charadump, I had the "luck" of landing in a dark room with a pack of time hounds just outside my passive detection (infra/telepathy) range, and got insta-killed just after I hit my precog macro. Them's the breaks.

Forgot to take an "I'm dead" dump, as I'm not used to making these things at all... though I do believe I'll get in the habit of it, heh. I'll likely replace this 'un when/if I manage to get another hydra-hybrid phaser (and I will!) above its level.

In response to Omninegro's nice advice, heh.

As you can see, I managed to run across some (much) better loot before croaking, heh.

As for the Uvatha thing, I actually perferred my current rings over it by a looong shot. The con ring was my weakest, with the others fairly massively increasing the amount of damage my phase attacks do, or boosted my speed, which I needed more than the paltry dex/int boosts from Uvatha's. That, and it had invisibility, which would stack with my wraith form to see me going even faster through food items... probably the phaser's most annoying feature so far. It'd be nice if the ability could be toggled...

I normally drop exploring to slug-like as soon as I can afford it speed-wise -- I'm addicted to stealth in a serious way. As for the normal tactic, I usually just leave it at that unless the situation demands something else.

Panic hit is wonderful, but it was a cold day in 'ell, as the saying goes, that anything actually got close enough to me for it to make a difference... I slaughtered off many a critter by tossing a phase ball around a corner, heh.

Small levels is better for the more impaitient among us, but it's definately the lesser choice if you're actually trying to win. The hydra situation I mention aboved happened more or less because there was only two rooms for the buggers to generate in, heh. If memory serves, I died off only a level or two below where this dump was made -- if it wasn't a small level, I probably wouldn't have been generated in the middle of a room quite so full of nasties, heh.

Anyway, gonna' see how far my Ettin berserker'll manage to go, and then fire up another Hybrid-phaser... without small levels on this time =P

Well, I think you did rather well. I understand about the explore mode. I usually keep it at coward and running until I can afford to waste speed.

I bet you'll king your next attempt. :)
