Armour forging is really powerfull in Sangband, from the mid-game on I didn't wear artifact armour any more.

I finally beat Morgoth in melee, and with Speed 36, all resists covered, and enough healing never was in real danger there.

I did some fixing to the quest code, which IMO is utterly broken in so far as the code that sets the level for the quest monster (in inn_purchase(int) ) never looks at the quest difficulty (easy, med, hard), but only depends on player level and depth. The difficulty *is* checked when giving the quest reward, so the only effect of an easy quest is that you get a worse reward for the same (rather high) difficulty.
I changed it that "easy" adds 2-3, "medium" 4-6, and "hard" 8-10 levels to the monster's level (+ 0-3 levels for player level and 0-3 levels for max depth).

There are certainly some balance issues with Sangband, including the cost of forging and magic devices. Also, the cost to advance "lower" level skills is too low (IMO). And of course the fact that there is unlimited advancement (though you didn't make use of that).
